Kudos to Mario for his 1,000 game appearance.

Is there a Sox player to register 1000 appearances? Will there be one?

    Why or why not?

With players in relief and middle relief making more appearences could it happen?

My understanding of it is that Mo was the first pitcher to ever do it for one team.  Now if you are asking about pitchers, then no there hasn't been a Red Sox player to do it.  There have been several position players though (Manny immediately comes to mind).

I don't believe we will see a Sox pitcher make 1000 appearances any time soon (I hate to say never).  Reason being RP's are so inconsistent year to year, I can see anyone being good enough for long enough in a RP role to do it, while still making little enough money for the Sox to keep them (Paps).

Also, congrats to Mo.  I loved his comment about how all it meant was that he was old.  Certainly there's more to it than just age.

Really? According to baseball-reference.com he's appeared in 569 games for the red flops.

Do you expect him to pitch until he's 60?

That list isn't for just 1 club though.  Looked at Franco, he only has 695 appearances with the Mets, 393 with the Reds, and 31 with the Astros.  While it's rare to make 1000 career pitching appearances, it's even more rare to do so with 1 team.  There's Mo, and then everyone else.

Yaz, Southpaw posted that Gold gloves are a result of media bias. The media doesn't vote for Gold gloves.

I think Southpaw is, deep down, a good hearted guy who feels compelled to follow the board bullies Schlep-Slav and Harnut. But when you do that you make up dim bulb comments like these:

    1. 5 gold gloves mean nothing
    2. Jeter never ever has been a good defensive player
    3. Gold gloves are tainted by media bias
    4. Varitek is what makes pitchers tick

Re: Kudos to Mario for his 1,000 game appearance.

First of all, 1000 appearances at 1+ IP doesn't hold a candle to 1000 appearances of pitching 2-3 innings. Let's put this in perspective.

OTOH, Softone's many statements of MO being in steep regression shows his lack of baseball knowledge - in the area of pitching anyway.

NY fans argued with this tom-foolery and backed up their stance. And they were right. But they have also kept their distance regarding the Gold Gloves issue, as they know the award is tainted. They also realize Jeter's limitations with the glove, which is why they haven't defended their own player getting repetitive recognition.
