Re: LA Times:Dodgers interested in Gonzalez/Would they also take Crawford/Beckett?Update:Dodgers awarded waiver claim on Adri...

Growing possibility Agon is getting dealt to the Dodgers reports say..

What can Sox possibly get in return from the Dodgers????? Dodgers won't part with Kershaw, Kemp, nor Ethier.  Ben.... Oh Lord.... Where is team going???
If Ben makes this trade happen and end up getting two or three prospects, then he should go kill himself before Sox fans do...

Re: LA Times:Dodgers interested in Gonzalez/Would they also take Crawford/Beckett?Update:Dodgers awarded waiver claim on Adri...

It's not what the Sox get in return.
The main impetus is the financial freedom that comes with dumping 6 years,22million for a player who is not happy here.
Plus getting LA to eat all or some of Beckett and/or Crawford's contract.
It undoes much of the bind Theo put this team in, with these contracts.
It gets the Sox well under the luxury tax, and enables them to rebuild.
It's not about an equal player for player trade.
    It's about money.
Sox fans get that the team is hamstrung by these contracts, and would understand if the return wasn't anything special/
Just to find a team willing to partner in such a deal is amazing.

[QUOTE]The reason possibly trading A-Gon is a good idea is because the red sox are standing firm on not going over the luxury tax threshold and taking away A-Gons 21 Million per year would help them to allocate to other more troubling positions...eh hem, starting pitching. A-Gon is a good hitter, and if he were a 3B, SS, 2B, C, then you dont deal him....but he plays a saturated position and I know he is a "Gold Glove" 1B, but lets be honest, 1B is a position where you can almost stick anyone and give a little practice and be decent. If a solid deal is out there for him then they should do it.....

Could not agree more. It would work out great for both teams. I think Agon does not care to be in Boston anyway. Absolutely make the deal and don't stop with just Agon.

[QUOTE]By Dylan Hernandez The Dodgers could land four-time All-Star Adrian Gonzalez in the coming days. Likely? No. But possible? Sure. Every indication is that the Dodgers have the resources — and perhaps more important, the mind-set — to complete the kind of revolutionary multiple-player trade necessary to acquire a player of Gonzalez's caliber in August. …"We can take on significant money," Chairman Mark Walter said Wednesday. …Even in the unlikely event that happens, the Dodgers would have to get creative to get him. …It's no secret the Red Sox are a shambles. This winter, they will face the task of rebuilding their club while remaining under the luxury-tax threshold. …But the Red Sox are shackled by other bloated contracts, and this is where the Dodgers can help. Outfielder Carl Crawford has cleared waivers. Pitcher Josh Beckett was put on waivers Thursday and also is expected to go unclaimed. …Were the Dodgers willing to unburden the Red Sox of either or both of those contracts, maybe Boston could be persuaded to also send Gonzalez their way. …Taking on these kinds of contracts might sound improbable, but so did absorbing the remaining $37 million on Ramirez's deal with the Miami Marlins . Whether a trade with the Red Sox actually comes to pass, the fact that it is even a remote possibly is yet another signal that the Dodgers have entered a new era.

It would be like our team to lose our best player, get little in return and keep the guys who are the real problems just because we can't unload them.

If the Dodgers get Adrian it better be for Kemp, otherwise management should sell the team to someone who knows baseball.

Who's our 1B for 2013? Loney? Mauro Gomez? another big signing? It's not always about getting rid of the big contracts.. Boston needs Gonzo and he's getting paid less than most of elite 1B in the league.. shame on you all who think Gonzo is waste on money...

Boston won two World Series without Gonzo.
Who played 1st base in 2004?
Not an important position, and the most easily replaceable in MLB.
Kemp? Get real! He's a five tool player playing the key position of CF. He does it all, including stealing bases and not clogging up the basepaths like Gonzalez does.
Do you nay sayers have any idea of the contract constrictions Theo put on this team?
That a team willing to take on these insane contracts is a God send.
    WAKE UP!

[QUOTE]First of all, the Dodgers farm system is cr8p.  Remember Tim Federowicz, our like 5th best catching prospect from a year ago?  Well he's the 9th best Dodger prospect in the whole system right now.  According to Scouting Book, Allen Webster would be the sixth best Sox prospect. Second of all, Gonzalez is terrific.  Yeah, he slumped a little early, but he's been hitting over .350 since mid june.   Lastly, say you unload a bunch of contracts and free up a ton of money.  Who are you going to buy?  Greinke?  Hamilton?  Peavy?  Marcum?  Beckett has a better chance of pitching well for the Sox in 2013 than Greinke or Marcum, and a better chance of staying healthy than Peavy.  You're basically trading a contract that expires in two years for a brand new one you can b1tch about for years to come.

I tend to agree with everything your saying. The only issue is that with Beckett, the consensus is that your also trading away an attitude. But, I agree Gonzalez should not be traded period.

Right on righty. Perhaps Youk would be available next yr. to bring back for 1st baseman. Dumping those 3 contracts is better than any X-mas present ever for SOX fans.
