Lavarnway to DL, Alex Hassan called up

BDC usually mangles my links now for some reason, but here goes...

    http://nesn.com/2014/05/reports-red-sox-place-ryan-lavarnway-on-dl-call-up-alex-hassan/" rel="nofollow">http://nesn.com/2014/05/reports-red-sox-place-ryan-lavarnway-on-dl-call-up-alex-hassan/

I'm interested to see Hassan get a shot...not doing much with the bat so far this year in Pawtucket, but he owns a .285/.393/.426 line in his minor league career. Could he be the next unexpected name to make a Nava (pre-2014 version) or Holt type impact?

he wont play much.  just sit on the bench unless someone else get hurt, and he ll replace him or someone get in a fight with one of the Rays's player, and got ejected.  Farrell could expect Gomes doing it again against the Rays

Hassan is a weak hitter. I would guess he is just a roster fill in for a few days.

    Stabbed by Foulke.

This team is badly in need of some offensive help, not in a month or even in two weeks-NOW! If Cherington waits much longer it will be too late. Once we get behind by 10 games you can write this season off. It hangs in the balance right now.

I'm glad they are giving Hassan a look I think he's a better all round player than Brentz and others.  I hope the guy chips in.

I like the idea of having him in the dugout to experience it--he's not the guy that should be up here. We need a guy than can go deep. Brentz I think is on the PawSox DL--the guy with better power numbers is Corey Brown--in addition he has some ML experience with the Jays. Snyder is around Brown's and Brentz's power numbers.

Snyder plays 1 B, 3 B and LF---the other two are OF only. Brown is a LH bat-Brentz RH bat.

You'll still be saying this when Lavarnway retires at age 28.

I don't think he is really going to get a fair look now either. He is there in case of emergency. I doubt he will see much playing time. The team is in too big a hole not to feel a sense of urgency to get back into the race.

Youdon't really have that many spots for an offensive upgrade.  We already addressed the issue at 3B.  1B and RF address themselves when Naps and Vic return.  The best area for an upgrade would be a lefty platoon bat that can play LF and RF.  It wouldn't add that much.
