    He's defense was something that was a "work in progress" but even then he projected as having plus defense in the future.  

    He always had the tools and that is something that nobody is saying about Lavarnway.  It would be absolutely amazing if Lavarnway turned into the next Posey, but that is highly unlikely....and it would be even more of a surprise as no one is really saying Lavarnway has the tools to be a plus defender.

    Lavarnways has projected to be an offensive threat, as the tools were there.  But he's had inconsistent success at the MLB level, and his bat speed has seemed to disappear last year.  He still might be a decent hitter but for guy that might just be a first baseman you have to be more to be a starter.

    I think he played catcher his last year at Yale.
