    Lost in today's craziness

Tommy - This kid, although he doesn't appear to be as good as Hill yet, could be a great left specialist. He reminds me a lot of Myers, our specialist in '04 I believe? Although the loss of Hill is pretty big, the kid was absolutely being brilliant, Tommy could still provide some choices out of that 'pen.

Aceves - This guy has been a shining star for us, be pitched 4 innings and only gave up a single run. We should definitely keep this guy around no matter what sort of basketcase people call him, he has good stuff.

The heart of the 2011 Sox - I do not believe you can question this team's will to win anymore. I had this one all drawn up as a loss after the 9th inning collapse, it's tough for a team to pull together to win a game where you've just hit so low. When we fell behind in the 11th, I didn't think anyone would blame us if we packed it in during the bottom of the 11th, but we didn't.

    GO SOX!!!

It's heart warming to see Hottovy finally make it. He was drafted before the Theo era! We all hope he can be a decent LH defensive specialist. So far, so good. If he earns a couple mil in his career, maybe even 5-10 mil if things go great, all those years of riding buses and eating road food will suddenly be well worth it.

To me, the current role for Aceves is exactly what he is designed for long term. A guy capable of long relief who can keep us in those extra innings games when needed.

No doubt Boom..Hottovy is a great example of never giving up. He does remind me of Hill since he went sidearm this spring. He was drafted in 2004, Boom, out of Witchita State. So that would be under Theos watch  http://www.soxprospects.com/players/hottovy-tommy.htm...Aceves is a great long man and can spot start when needed.
Your right about the heart of this team NU   ...These guys seem to gel more and more as the year goes..when someone is down, someone else picks them up..Great game today..A win tomorrow and we can salvage a split on the homestand.

    Re: Lost in today's craziness

Also lost in the craziness was that the Sox actually hit Trevor Cahill pretty well today.

This deserves mention because every time a good pitcher shuts the Sox down, some brainiac inevitably comes up with the observation "This team cannot hit good pitching" and then pats himself on the back for his acuity.

However, the team did hit Cahill, a good pitcher, pretty well today.  Though I suppose not as well as they pounded on Max Scherzer (another good pitcher FYI) last week...

To run an extra 5 inning test and blow a 4-run lead in the 9th is inexcusable---bad management

Yeah, I always have a good chuckle over the stunning insight that we hit bad pitchers better than we hit good pitchers.  Who'd have figured?

we'll see how great the return of lackey is before judgement on not needing aceves to start.. I think wakes is the guy & aceves for long relief..but not if beckett gets a blister, buch's & wake's backs fail, etc.

I actually felt the A's pitching wouldn't measure up to their 2011 numbers this time around in Fenway. I think when the RedSox face an unknown, it's problematic.
But after they see him once, not so much.
They get a much better game plan against him.

A's pitching not only benefits from playing in Oakland, but the unbalanced schedule keeps them from familiarity against teams like NY & Boston.

Aceves has out performed Wastefield. He was the key pitcher in today's game. If I were him, I would demand a trade if they kept me cleaning up behind Wastefield.
