Re: Massarotti:Race is on for Red Sox

How does a hack like Mazz get a job writing for the Globe and a radio gig?

The Sox have been nothing if not streaky this year (and last year).  This latest streak was due to them playing bad teams - teams with no offense - which made the pitching look really good.

Next up are 15 games against quality teams, Tampa, Philly, Detroit, and even Baltimore.

The Sox go no better than 5-10 and Red Sox nation will be back to calling them all bums.

Pitching and defense, the two aspects of winning that have been eluding this team, seems to be improving. Yes we beat the Mariners with two solid performances from Lester and Beck, and I might point out that historically, we have not played well against either Seattle or Oakland. As a matter of fact, I think you might find that we have always struggled against all of the ALW.

This guy would make a better politician than writer, he flip flops and forgets what he said a week ago more so than Romney. What a tool this guy is, someone should hit him with the proverbial 2x4 and maybe he'll finally figure out how to write.

He's paid by the word, I'm sure, and is expected to hold our interest.  He no longer holds mine because several threads have already pointed out what the Sox are doing right.  The hitting has been good from the get go.  The bullpen has been terrific for over 20 games.  And the rotation just might be coming around.  Oh, and the Sox are going on a tough road trip which will help to determine how good they really are.  All of this is old news.

And here's one Tony doesn't know.  The MLB season of 162 games can also be seen as 9 innings of 18 games each.  We are just finishing the 2d inning.  When Massarotti was telling us this team is hopeless and a disaster, we were still in the first inning.

Yep, this segment of the season will tell the story. By the end of it, June will be here and we will either be in it, or most likely out of it and starting to make some moves to get ready for 2013. I hope we go 15-0, but really? 5-10...6-9 more likely.

Re: Massarotti:Race is on for Red Sox

The Sox beat the O's last night to even their record at 21-21.  Since starting the season losing 10 of 14, they have played 66.2% baseball by winning their next 17 of 28 played through yesterday. At this pace, if they could keep it up over the remaining 120 games to be played, they will close out the 2012 regular season at 100-62. Admittedly a lot of water has to pass over the dam before the end of the season, and anything could happen, as we all know, but there is hope.  Over a similar 123 game span in 2011, the Sox record was 81-42.  So, anything is possible. Go Sox....

Re: Massarotti:Race is on for Red Sox

The Sox have now hit .500 for the third time this season.  The first two times they fell back, but right now you gotta like what what you see.  A very tough road trip to Tampa, Philly, and Baltimore, and the Sox are now guaranteed at least 4-4 with 6-2 a possibility.

Massarotti's article is better than I stated.  Right now is indeed a critical period, and he could be right that most often the playoff teams are mostly determined by August 1.
