    McDonald

OK, he's been doing better. But no matter who's pitching for the opposition, Boston should field the best nine healthy players until the WC is secure. McDonald is not one of them. He is simply not a very good baseball player, an he's a rock head.
His little OPS spurt recently is not to be trusted with so much at stake.

I'm satisfied to let Francona make that decision, but will say that Reddick's OPS is almost identical hitting righties or lefties.

But you won't say he's a better pick to start than McDonald unless you hear Francona say it first.   I understand. Smile

McDonald started against Romero based on the fact that he was hitting .364 against him. I would have used the same logic as Terry did. A no-brainer unless you have an agenda here like Bosox1941 has.

Apparently you have an agenda BOSOX1941, you just made "the list"

That stat information should seal the deal. There is no comparison between these two players on defense -- unless it's highly unfavorable to McDonald. These grave games could hinge on a catch or a throw. Or something on the bases.

Terry did not use "logic." He used a single number. Logic would require consideration of more variables.

Is this terminology reflective what D. Williams used to call George Scott (Cement Head)?

OK, then relatively healthy players, which would describe a lot of players in the majors at this time of the year. Dinged up as opposed to ground up. Ortiz and Gonzalez and Beckett were recently dinged up. Youkilis is apparently ground up.
Bedard may be one or the other, the former, we hope.
The Sox do seem to have more than their share of dings and worse. But maybe it seems that way because Sox fans don't keep count of injuries on other clubs.
If it's true that Boston is prone to injuries, the question then becomes why.

That's kind of where the analysis falls down.  DMac has been hitting the ball better than Reddck recently, and he has a nice matchup.  Expitch wants Tito to start the better player, as does the rest of the RSN.  But right now, against lefties, isn't DMac the better player?

    Well...yeah.

Reddick is a guy who hit 240 in over 700 AAA at bats and has hit 254 in 358 ML at bats.  McDonald is at 247 in around 600 Ml at bats.  We aren't talking a big difference in level of success here.

It isn't that DMAC is such a good choice to play against lefties, it"s that Reddick sure isn't any better.

People want to point to Reddicks 38 at bats against lefties to show that he hits lefties well.  Seriously?  This year at AAA Reddick was hitting 200 against lefties.

Sure.  I'm not arguing that DMac is a good player or anything.  I wanted Willingham instead of CC and even at the trade deadline (type A and all).

But it just looks to me like he's playing better than Reddck right now.

It's so crazy in here that there is another thread in here saying that Reddck stinks and should never play.
