Agree. Why pitch to him with first base open?

Better take the L in regulation than going into extra innings and losing.

Indians have been tough this year in close games.

Bard is not who he use be. He really needs more time between outings. Now he is useless tomorrow night. Could of, should of, I am going to let myself go there.

I mean, he is their hottest hitter, and first base was open. Walking him was a no brainer. Tito asleep at the switch.

For the seccond time a chance to move into first slipping away. That pitch Bard gave up the tying run on was terrible. Any news on Pedroia? I'm just now getting online.

Maybe, but he still had good command.  He was done in by a ground ball that should have been handled.
Brutal. I have no problem going with Bard in that situation ... that's his role, and Buchholz was starting to look frustrated. Bard had thrown well last night, so I dont' mind that. BUT ... major screw up not walking Cabrera.
    Posted by LloydDobler
so tired of all this softness in our society. he was frustrated? let him toughen up. wasnt that his issue before last year? you tell him he can choose to win or lose the game and keep his buttt out there.

Were paying for all the innings Bard threw last year because he is not automatic anymore. Too many innings.
What irks me about this as I have said before Francona is dangerous in close games. Earlier in the game Gonzalez walked and Youk was up with no one out. It is a close game and runs are tough to come by plus we played a late game at home last night. That was a bunt situation with Ortiz up next.

Remy and Orsillo give little or no insight into the game. They are just living off their reputation.

This is where I differ from you. This happens to all managers.

First, I want to hear why Buch was taken out. I though he should have been left in too.

However, this goes back to the other thread about how managers manage the game. It's the eighth inning, the relievers are lined up, there's a player in scoring position -- a guy like Bard is expected to come in and finish the inning.

This is a case IMO where Buch should have been allowed to keep going, but Francona is hardly alone in going to the pen in that situation.
