    Mortensen time to go?

I'm not sure what Farrell finds appealing with Mortensen but he seems to gradually be getting worse.  Morales or Aceves should probably replace him soon.

Hes a mop up guy and a guy who can save the other arms when we have a lead. Every team has one. Theyre usually not top bullpen guys, which is why they are in that role. If he was a lot better, he wouldnt be in that role and we would have someone else just like him there.

Thats what Lou Merloni is saying on WEEI......   Myself, I think that Mortensen is a good long/middle guy.......  I would say Breslo is the one to go..... They were also talking another outfielder coming !!

All pitchers go through good and bad times. Bottom of the pen guys more bad than others, but Mortensen has looked sharp at times, and will likely look good again someday. He may be trade bait at some point.

mortensen should not be on this team, he is brutal, why would we send aceves down when we could just get rid of mortensen and replace him with ace? mortensen is useless and i still have no idea why he is on this team. gotta put your best players on the team, he is not one of them.

Because, ACE (Aceves) has to be told when to come in out of the rain !!!!

    Re: Mortensen time to go?

Morales coming back gives us 14 pitchers. Two will have to go. Aceves and Wilson have options , so that could be a factor. Sox may be looking to make a deal or biding time before making a decision, but you do not want to play with a three man bench for too long. Being a " mop up" man is not justification for keeping a guy. You want to go with your best twelve guys.

Exactly. He was good last year and this year has just had a couple of bad games.  he is the long guy, the mop up guy.

Who else are you going to put in that position? Aceves is the only other guy that fits and he doesn't want the job.

    Mortensen isn't a problem.

I think a deal may be in the works. Might not be a blockbuster though.

I like what Wilson brings to the table. Hes not afraid to throw strikes and challenge MLB hitters. He might be the odd man out though having options left.

    Re: Mortensen time to go?

your question was what does Farrell see in Mortenson. The answer is very simple, he has a rubber arm. He has thrown on consecutive nights multiple innings. You don't find guys who can keep you in games every night whether your up or down on the scoreboard growing on trees. Is he a bore to watch? Yup! Does he strike you as Matsuzaka like in his slow methodical way? Yup! Is he saving the rest of the staff? Yup!!! Yup,Yup, hooray!
