    My Two Cents

How possibly did this team win last year's world series or anything?

    Some opinions...

Ortiz: career over, can't run, can't hardly walk properly
Bradley: long way from major league ready
    Bucholz: broken
Lester: stop sulking about a contract
Uehara: they are trying to burn him out
    Pierzynski: career over, go home
    Middlebrooks: broken
    Napoli: inconsistent but has value
    Gomes: career over, go home
    Nava: where are you Daniel?
Sizemore: career has been over, go home
Victorino: made of plastic but has value
Pedroia: overpaid and overrated but has value
Lackey: will his inconsistency show again?
    Doubront: are you kidding me?
Jake Peavy: has value and good attitude
David Ross: career over, go home
Mike Carp: career over, go home
John Farrell: I like his style but...

Other than Ortiz, which you are way wrong on; I could agree with the rest of your evaluations, except I DON'T like Farrell's style.

He's also wrong on Doubront (3.48 in last 6 starts), Lester (not sulking, almost mananimous in his dealings), Ross (ptpobably abouy average for a BUC), Peavy (5.22 in his last 5, with a worrisome 21/17 K/W)

Can we get a whole team of players whose "career is over" (11 HR, .959 OPS) and who need to "stop sulking about a contract" (2.67 ERA, 1.10 WHIP)?

Physically, Peavy may not have it any more, but I don't think his attitude is the problem, other than he cares too much and gets too amped up.

I stopped taking it seriously after he said Papi's career was over, but when he said Peavy had value and Doubront was 'ru kidding me', I just figured he didn't pay much attention to the RS, and was probably thinking of something he read or heard a month ago.

It would be hard to miss Papi's trip to MN unless you just didn't read the sports section.

And you probably have to be a RS fan for this, but Doubront is pitching twice as well as Peavy, easily.

My guess is we'll see Peavy on the DL soon.  His K-rate is less than half what it was over the first 4 starts or so.

Doubront has pitched much better recently, obviously. As I said earlier, I would have given him about four more starts when he was pitching horribly, but as of now, he seems to have turned it around to an extent. I would like to see that happen more consistently. Bucky on the other hand still has an ERA of over 6, and Peavy is not pitching well at all. We cannot have both Bucky and Peavy pitching the way they are in our rotation unless the offense improves more than its likely to improve.

    Re: My Two Cents

Anyone who thinks Ortiz' career is over is heading into moron territory - sorry, but there's no way to sugar coat it.

This list came off as a cheap series of potshots. Most of the analysis is fairly accurate but a good deal of these players had to prove what they were worth - or not. There was no way to really tell until we put them out there.

It all looks obvious now from the armchair.

Yes, there should have been something more aggressive than Sizemore for the outfield, a Beltran type. But much of the rest is second guessing.

    As for this:

"Lester: stop sulking about a contract"

You truly lost credibility with this. First because Lester is pitching well, who cares about anything but the on field results?

Second, what if your boss came up to you and said, "Son, for the new five years you are going to be paid less than half of what you are worth on the open market. And I expect you to smile and be happy about that."

    You absolutely wouldn't be.

So for a whole post that implies blame on management, fair or not, you forgot to hold management accountable for lowballing Lester which caused the attitude problem you are fantasizing about in the first place.

Its not hard to limit someone to two hits if the rest of the team stinks offensively. All you have to do it not give him a pitch to hit.

    SPEAKING OF CHILDISH......

Whoever this clown is, at least he makes those of us with legitimate gripes and concerns about this team look like absolute homers by comparison.   Furthermore, he does nothing more than marginalize any real concerns he may have.

Pedey?   Over payed & over rated?  You just sound ignorant.  & you clearly have not been watching the Sox for long!  If you have been watching, then it's clear how little you know about the game.

Papi?  You sound a bit like an old fool who was laughed off this board last year.

    Vic?  Fragile, but a winner.

Lester, Lackey, & even Peavy have been very good for the most part.

    Nava has EARNED another shot!

    Oooeee. :)

    The pen's been pretty solid.

The kids are killing us.   Just what you wanted last year.   IRONIC?
