    Closer-Dick Radatz.

    Manager-Dick Williams

    Yes. Closer" Radatz

    RF Babe Ruth

    Manager  Joe Cronin

Switch postions for Yaz and TW. Ted was not a very good defensive outfieler.

    3. David 'Boo' Ferris  ahead of either Parnell or Tiant

    4. Dick Williams followed by Ralph Houk as manager

    5. Close call between Papelbon and Radatz.  Radatz was just so intimidating in his prime.

Actually, I think Babe Ruth was as good as or better than any of the guys you have in the rotation.  His lifetime ERA was 2.28.

I agree with the OP's line up.

The only way you make TW the DH is if you do not go old school. TW never played with the DH and Yaz did and was at times the DH.

Francona must be the Manager on accounts even if you hate him.

Smokey Joe Wood needs consideration over Parnell and Lynn in CF and Ruth in RF but do not consider his career after Boston.

Heard when Foxx was with the A's, and the year he hit 58 HRS, hit 3 balls off a sign that was not there the year before in Philly, and they would have been HR's.
If that sign wasn't there he would have had 61 HR's in 154 games.

Next year that sign was taken down.

Remember reading Williams book "My Turn at Bat" he said the best hitter he ever saw. Said the ball had a unique sound when it went off his bat.

He had 125 Triples in his career too.

I would have to find a place for Schilling, one of the greatest big-game pitchers in history.

Nomar and Vern Stephens over Rico Petrocelli?  You know, the All time team leader at SS in games, hits, home runs, RBI, WAR and probably a few other categories.

Also, Everett Scott needs some shortstop love.

Also, Jim Rice and forgotten Hall of Famer Harry Hooper are worthy at minimum of an Honorable Mention...

I'm so glad you brought attention to Jr. Stephens.  Many who recall him think of him as a 3B, but in '49 & '50, he indeed played SS with Pesky at 3B.  And although he was only with the Sox for 5 years, after being acquired from the old St. Louis Browns and later playing out his 19-year career with the White Sox and transplanted Browns (Baltimore Orioles),  he remains one of my favorites from a truly memorable team.

With fond memories of Williams, DiMaggio, Al 'Zeke' Zarilla, Goodman, Doerr, Pesky, 'Birdie' Tebbetts, and the indomitable Walt Dropo, adding to which such notable pitchers as Parnell, Kinder who as a starter became a very proficient reliever, Dobson, Stobbs, McDermott, Hughson, and Dave 'Boo' Ferris, they still remain one of my all-time favorite Red Sox squads.  With a tip of the cap to oft-forgotten manager, Joe McCarthy.

I'm sure I've overlooked a player or two, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind.

    Thanks for prodding my memories.

    Happy trails.

     /QUOTE]

I may get some heat from a few of our older fans but I'm 54 and my dad would be 84 if he were still around watching the Sox with me.  My dad and I had this discussion many times and both agree.  Its hard to place players from other decades with some of todays.  Very few old time pitchers from the 50's and back could throw in the upper 90's, or had more than two good pitches in their arsenal back in the early days.  As time went on the game became much more complex from all aspects.

Because of this unknown, here is my choice from the 60's on.  I don't think it would matter a lick who batted where after Carew.

    Rod Carew 1B

    Morgan 2B

    Yount SS

    Yaz LF

    Papi DH

    Jonny Bench C

    Clemente RF

    Willie Mays CF

    George Brett 3B

    Pedro

    Schilling

    Gibson

    Seaver

    Verlander

    Kofax

    Felix

Cant go wrong with any of them!
