Nava's v LP numbers are weak. He's also a weak defender. He's a prefect platoon guy v RP. Nothing "stunning All-Star" about his firs quarter. In the proper role, he's good.

    25 AB's against RHP, with  6 RBI's

Very close to an RBI per game.  vs. RHP

You hate to give any Red Sox player credit, so I get it.

This kid has been an All-Star this season no matter the metric

His D has been very solid.  He can't move like Ells, but his glove & arm are solid!  Good instincts!  Good positioning.

Two hits today so far vs LHP.

Nava is certainly better against RHP. Hes stronger from the left side. No question. I'd say that his defense has improved a lot since his first year. I wouldnt consider him a ""GG" OF'er, but hes not a liability either. If he could produce better splits, there would be no need to platoon him.

Since hes better vs RHP, he can get most of the starts every year.

On a side note...His story, so far, has the makings a good movie.

I'd rather have Nava's defense in the outfield than Ciriaco's in the infield.

100% agree on that. Ciriaco is the true meaning of the word "butcher", in baseball terms.

Before today, Nava v LP for 2013:

    BA .200

    OBP .290

    SLG .440

    OPS .730

Yep.   Against LHP  an excellent OPS of .730 in 25 AB's

Less than 7 games of AB against LHP  & he has 6 RBI's

No matter how you slice & dice it, the kid is having a KILLER SEASON!

Per at bat, Nava is in the top 5 with RBI's!

I guess you simply don't understand baseball???

Top 5 in the MLB is generally considered pretty good Stiffy.

Perhaps your oh so brilliant bunk mate Billy-69 can explain it to you????

    Just an FYI Stiffy.....

27 RBI's in 116 AB's is generally considered EXCELLENT by those who know baseball.

In fact, I believe it's 2nd in the MLB.  That is also considered BEYOND excellent by those who know baseball.

Stick with it Stiffy.....  You're bound to catch on.

    Just for Stiffy.....

In case you can't do the math.....  vs. RHP and LHP

    The equivalent of 29    4 AB games.....    27 RBI's

Those of us who know baseball, know this is AWESOME!  ;)

Your bias clouds your ability to interpret RAW unskewed numbers....

Id give him a write in for the AS game, but that would obviously be a homer pick. For a corner OF'er he needs to get that OPS above/around 800 vs LHP, IMO. Thats not to take anything at all away from him, as hes looked fantastic this year and has worked his azz off to improve his game. Plus, hes a likable kid.

Certainly respectable numbers, RSDD.  But All-Star?  Maybe if he played for a team like the Astros and they needed representation.

If he were to continue at this pace, HITTING WHERE HE DOES IN THE LINEUP, PER AT BAT........

Yes!  His batting stats would make him a borderline All-Star.

That's overly generous.  Let me remind you that he is a corner outfielder.

It's because he is streaky.  If he does it all year then he will get love and respect.

    So far so good.

I think Nava's hard work has finally paid off.  He's not just a decent platoon guy with a fair glove anymore.  He is a very valuable player in our lineup at this point who I really hope doesn't tail off like last season.

    Same with Salty!
