You don't get it. Nobody here cares what you think. Yet you start thread after thread of hate filled name calling nonsense. Why don't you do yourself and everyone else a favor and just go away.

TROTTER........ as DAD would say........ "SON, TELL YOUR BUDDY TROTTER/SOFTY THAT HE IS WRONG ON BEN C." !!!!!The real issue is the incompetent GM's office. So far, the players are partying over grandpa "great respect with players" Farrell. In the end, it's the player movement and retention decisions that will determine if the Red Sox continue to be the most embarrassing assemblage of near billion dollar cost indolent Big Labor in baseball history. Farrell is competent to be a MB manager, but Cherry is not competent to be a MLB GM.

He doesn't go away because THIS IS WHAT HE DOES. He repeats the same thing over and over and over and over thinking that if he does that people will believe him.
And why wouldn't he think that? It worked his character assassinations of Mike Lowell, Time Wakefield, and Jason Veritek until half the board turned on them. He's also now trying to do the same thing to Cherrinton and the Player's Union - an odd combination, when you stop to think about it.
If it weren't for Moon, Snake, and a few others pointing out his inconsistencies and silliness he'd have even more followers here.
THINK FOR YOURSELF, PEOPLE!

What a great GM you are soft one! Too stupid to realize who was actually calling the shots back when it counted. LUCCHINO. What is it a mildly lucid pretend lawyer like yourself doesn't get about this.
As a Yankee fan, of course you hate the FACT that the only real decision that Ben C. has had any sway over was the decision to deal Beckett, A-Gon, & Crawford. Of course you hate this, as you well know what an anchor these contracts would have been on the Sox for the next 5 - 7 years. Best deal of the year for any team needing to make big changes!!!! That Ben C.
Your pretend GM moves have been consistently been proven wrong, whenever implemented. You are a sad little man! & a bitter Yankee loser :)

It seems to be a big sport to gang up on Trotter-Softlaw nowadays, but I can see a lot of what he says. Cherington is a lousy GM, weak, risk averse, takes eons to make a decision, and just see the trash he stuck us with this past season should give all of us pause to see that this guy might not be up for the job. To me he is just that---a lemon. Look at that big trade with the Dodgers. It was the GM's job to engineer such a trade but we now know it was ownership that did the honors. In the Farrell negotiations it was the owner who decided to go along with the compensation. In two critical events Cherington has little or nothing to do with them. That to me is not a credible GM. OK, many of you want to give him a chance to rectify his miserable first season at the helm, but don't be surprised if many of you are disappointed at the results. -

He didn't have a bad first year and made a huge move. LL forced the Sox to wait until December until they could start making moves. He found Ross for only 3 million dollars. He picked up Padilla. I still like the Bailey trade. He had no money, a huge mess, and little time. To blame him is like in Italy blaming geologist for the earthquakes. -

fred, my response to the OP was based on an earlier post of his that challenged us to name names of pitchers that could help the team in 2012 while telling us to shut up if we couldn't provide details. Now in response to your post, I think you pre-judge the guy...fact #1 -- Ownership dictated that 2012 was about the Ballpark and it's 100 year anniversary.
fact #2 - a trade of a quarter billion in salary is going to involve owners...so let's be real there. Plus do you seriously believe that the Lucchino. Werner or Henry got in the trenches to figure out the players got in return without their GM being involved?
Cherington's primary job this offseason now is to acquire another major league above average starting pitcher for the rotstion, a bat at IB and one of the OF positions...a bonus would be to get a major league ready SS rather than turn the job over to a banjo hitting defensive whiz.

The team absolutely needs to ad a very good pitcher to the team, to take over the 1 slot. It also needs without a doubt one of either Lackey or Lester to pitch to the best of their abilities.
And of course we need more power.

In big deals such as the august trade and the farrell deal, the owners, no matter what team, would have to start that processs, but the GM finishes off the deal. The GM negotiates the players involved once the owners give the OK for the deal to happen. To judge BC on an obviously screwed up year throughout the organization is not realistic.
You will see what having financial flexability, a manager that everyone endorses and proper chain of command throughout the organization will do. BC will, and should, be judged on what happens in 2013. Not the 2012 mess of a season.

it's hard to say anything good about a labor pool that was paid nearly a billion dollars for zero playoff wins. Back when the brilliant founding fathers created this former great Nation, these labor hands would be correctly put in debtors' prison.
What relationship do the founding fathers have with playoff baseball? The concept your putting forward is preposterous. It's just more tea party psycho babble.
