News: John Lackey & JD Drew under investigation by the IRS!

It appears the two players are being investigated for being just that, players. An anonymous IRS staffer leaked out the fact that these two may have stolen a total of 152.5 million dollars from their employer The Boston Red Sox.

When reporters targeted Lackey outside of Fenway this morning he immediately blamed Drew for the "misunderstanding." Drew was cornered by reporters shortly thereafter but he issued a statement on paper saying he had hurt his jaw while brushing his teeth and thus was unavailable to comment.

It is also rumored that Lackey may be negotiating for leniency with the IRS via the United States government providing he can offer some concrete evidence in the forthcoming Daisukae Matsuzaka $52 million dollar fraudulent goods trial being played out (see: Boston Red Sox/United States vs. Seibu Lions).

On a side note the IRS dropped its claim against Tim Wakefield stating it was too small to worry about.

I am anxious to see how this will go.

Actually nothing for either.  Aside from being a whining post, for tax purposes the IRS considers "income from whatever source derived."  The IRS only cares that the appropriate taxes are paid, not how you get the income (this is how Al Capone for example was put away for the long-term).

yeah, SLACKEY and NANCY are laughing all the way to the bank.

i think THEO BLUNDER should also be investigated for being a cohort in this stolen money calamity. or, at least, for just being plain stupid.

Re: News: John Lackey & JD Drew under investigation by the IRS!

The Yanks have yet to navigate the type of rocky roads that await when the second half starts Thursday. They now must contend with other shaky parts — bullpen, reliable third starter — without the services of Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez.

A-Rod is expected to miss about a month, a good 30 games preceding the homestretch. The Yankees might not win a playoff berth during A-Rod's absence, but they sure could position themselves to lose one.

The Yanks would serve themselves well to play the kind of inspired baseball played by their rival last season. The Red Sox, blasted with one injury after another virtually out of spring training, had no right winning 89 games and getting within sniffing distance of a wild-card berth.

Are the Yanks as mentally tough? Now, we get to see what they are made of without A-Rod in the lineup and a pitching staff full of question marks. Can Burnett put together a run worthy of a top starter? Can Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia, long past their prime, continue to stabilize the rotation? Can Robertson continue his knockout season?

The Yanks open the second half in crisis mode. They will need a spectacular finish to combat their personnel issues and make the playoffs. Nobody will ever label the Yanks as underdogs. As we stand today, they certainly aren't the favorites.

Is going 8-2 in their last 10 games, all without A-Rod, and a bonafide starter waiting in the wings (Nova), crisis mode? What a joke.

If Crawford used Rocket's lawyer, he would make a defense that Crawford misremembered how to hit a baseball, and misremembered he was an All-Star.

I doubt the Lackey bashers know (or even care) the severity of his wife's illness.  I happened to be out in Chicago last week to watch Wake go for win 200 (he failed, but not for lack of effort) and managed to stumble into the same establishement as John and his wife.  She looks good for someone going through what she is going through.  Hang in there John...it will get better.  Keep giving it everything you got.

JD...well, retirement is a viable option.

Under the Non-Production/Non-Performance Act (Lugo's Law), evidence must cumulative over the life of a contract. In that case, expect news of an indictment of of J.D. soon. CC is safe for now, but will be under heavy scrutiny by the IRS for the next 6 years.

RSN is disappointed with Crawford and chooses to remain more silent and hopeful but as usual Cater has  the need to attack, insult, and be negative and , of course, preach to the RSN choir. Remember Cater since he is the only one who has the infinite wisdom to notice the Crawford is under-performing. The rest of us didn't notice that. How stupid we are.
