Nice start by Aceves, but he really is crazy

I just caught the exchange of lineup cards before tonight's game on BBTN.  Aceves threw a ball to Salty right in the middle of the exchange, tossing it over everyone's heads.  Farrell looked at him like, WTF?  In retrospect I would not have been upset had Farrell told him to grab some pine.  I cannot imagine what goes on in this man's head.

Pitchers are ALL a little crazy.  Smile

    Remember Julian Tavarez?

Being a little crazy for a pitcher is a good thing....like being a little wild.  The batter can't dig in.

A little crazy makes a lot of boring go for a long way!

Loved Salty's comment that Ace is different.

Then he said he never lets anything bother him .... wha?

Hey, Aceves wanted to warm up and they were in the way!

Just his way of telling them to move it along.

The umps didn't seem to take offense.

I certainly realize the value of having someone so versatile on the staff and much prefer Ace over Mort.  And yes, ampoule, there is something to be said for a batter not being able to dig in.  I would be scared sh!tless to step into the box against him.   Tavarez was definitely flaky, but I never regarded him as dangerous.  I don't think he threw as hard as Aceves.  I fear Ace may cause someone serious injury one of these days.

Beanball.  Maybe irrational on my part, but that's where I go with him.

    Yeah, Im with you here...

Although hes valuable, theres only so much one can do to disrupt the team. Also, I dont care how valuable you are, you CANT call out your team like he did last time he was here.

With that said, I hope he can stary on track. He looked good last night.

There's a chance the bus rides to and from Pawtucket have humbled him somewhat.  I thought it was telling that Salty stated that Ace didn't shake him off once yesterday.  We'll see.

Yup. I'm hoping his stay at AAA has taught him something.

Not really counting on it, though.

He seems to be impulsive. That's a tough habit to break.

Last year, I was at the Patriots day game and Aceves was warming up in right field right near pesky's pole...I was right around the pole when Aceves was warming up with Andrew Miller and he threw it right over his head into the stands at about 80 MPH..luckily it didn't hit anyone but it landed about 10-15 rows up and had someone been there the result would not have been pretty.

Yeah, Impulse control is not usually easily fixed. Especially at his age.

I just hope he trys his hardest to say and do the right things for the teams sake, and his future.

I still dont trust him though, and until he can prove over a period of time he can be I wont.

You need to worry about other pitchers throwing beanballs.

The static is not important when the player shows up for work and performs his role well. "Calling out the team" has happened and had both postive and negative affects, depending on the circumstance. He's not going to be a team leader, and doesn't need to be.

In the context of which he called them out couldnt have been worse. he threw a horrible game, gave up a ton of walks, hits, and runs. Then had the nerve to call out the offense for not scoring 10 runs to compensate for his dreadful performance. You just dont do that. He needed to come out and just say "I sucked today and I have to do better", Not blame the offense for not scoring enough.

It might have humbled him Joel, but Ace is and will forever be a nut case. That kind of eccentricity just doesn't disappear.
