Its Oakland, since Colon is going down. Also the reason Texas is looking for a bat. Because of Cruz also going down with a suspension.

    Good points..

    •  From MLBTraderumors.com:
    • "They're definitely trying to move him before he makes that [Tuesday] start," an executive of a team monitoring the Peavy talks tells ESPN's Jayson Stark.  Stark says the Red Sox are willing to take on Peavy's contract or give up prospects, but not both.  Stark sees the A's as the favorite, with the money a stumbling block for the Braves, the Cardinals unlikely, and the Orioles lurking.

I wonder if the Sox would see things differently if Ells DID sign? If they were sure of signing Ells, would JBJ, Britton and Barnes be enough to land Lee? I really like JBJ, but certainly rank Boegardts, Cechini, Webster, Rubby, Swihart, Owens, Ranaudo just as highly as JBJ, and if Ells was to return, that would make this deal easier to digest.

Don't make a Larry Anderson trade just for the sake of making a move - it has to be the right move and there doesnt seem to be one out there where the other team isnt asking for the moon from the Sox

Anderson is a poor comparison. Peavy is locked up through 2014, making him more attractive and costly to bidding teams.

That said, the Sox are likely better off standing pat.

The Phills are saying it will cost a teams top 4 prospects and take on all Lees $$$...Thats crazy. If Ells was resigned it certainly changes things in regards to JBJ.

Id only consider Lee if the Phills eat about 20-25M and then we would probably have to deal 2 of Webster, RDLR, Ranaudo, Barnes. (we know Bogey and Owens are off limits) JBJ, and another top prospect.

But like Ive said. Lee and his wife didnt want to come here before and would have to waive his NTC to do so since the Sox are on that list.

So a lot of the trades going down this week from teams such as Oakland and TExas and possibly others are in fact not making these playoff contenders better; rather it's maintaining the status quo in wake of what they are bound to lose.

    In response to BurritoT-'s comment:

people have said Gorman had no idea who Bagwell was and because Baggs ranked 3rd on the 3B depth chart he assumed he was 3rd best. People who watched Bagwell (Red Sox minor league staff) new better.

I think today the GM is overly-informed.

    Gorman knew who Bagwell was.

He also knew Bagwell was not goimg to stick at third and was pprobanlh going to force a switvh to 1b.   And he also knew 1b was the same position as his othrr top hitting prospect, Mo Vaughn.

They just chose to movr Bagwell ovsr Vaughn. If people want go argue ths y moved the wrong guy, hopefully they at least remembdr Vaughn wasn't exactly a bust...
