    No Lavarnway today?

I would have thought Salty would have been given a rest today.

I find it strange that Lavarnway isn't catching.

Have Salty out there after catching both ends of a doubleheader tells you a lot about what Farrell and the Sox think of Lavarnway.

    Re: No Lavarnway today?

A fair question given Saltalamacchia catching 18 innings yesterday.

Possible reasons why Lavarnway is sitting:

Salty feels great and wants to go again.

Dempster likes to be caught by Salty.

Salty hits righties a lot better than Lavarnway.

I know the tigers have a LHP (rookie) going tomorrow in place of Sanchez, and Hellickson is going today.

Yes, the staff seems to have settled in comfortably with Salty.

And the way Dempster has been throwing, I guess I wouldn't blame him for wanting Salty.

I can't remember another time when a different catcher wasn't used after so many consecutive innings.

If that's the case, why bring him up in the first place?  In a pinch, Napoli could have caught.

And why Lavarnway and not Vasquez?

So you're saying Lavarnway against the RHP?

No, he should play tomorrow against the southpaw.

How about none of the above. Salty has hit Hellickson extremely well. 2HR and a 1.117 OPS in 24 AB.

Once again, too much reading between the lines.  Like 98% of these decisions are pretty straightforward.

It was nice to see him out there.

But even if salty has hit Hellickson good, he caught 18 innings yesterday and Im sure hes tired. I would have understood if they did sit him. Hes a gamer and thats one quality of many that I like about him.

From what I see, that doesnt need to be plural. Bill is the only one who appears slow here...
