Not a Great Start for Dempster

He developed a hangnail and had to be shut down for the day.  How dare he pick at his cuticles with so much at stake and after receiving such a generous contract!  You would think that someone who uses his hands and fingers for his  livelihood wouldn't be more up to speed in the finer points of manicure.

    Have at it, Bootlicker Brigade!

Well, Lester could return to form. Lackey could pitch like he did with the Angels. Buchholz might end up being that ace they kept saying he was going to be. We just need all of that to happen.

RA Dickey and Tim Wakefield are teaching Doug Flutie how to throw a knuckleball.  Flutie may be an option for the Red Sox.   LOL

I don't think so. DiceK had 2 successful years in the  AL East. Dumpster has had zero success in the AL.

I would think there's got to be some adjustment period, when moving from the NL to the AL.

I'm hoping starting out against AL teams from the start of the season helps Dempster's AL numbers.

Dempster really only had two bad starts where he give up 16 runs in 10 innings. I see him as low 4 ERA and 200 innings. That would really the team.

I wish the best for the Dumpster because he is going to be playing for the Red Sox this year, whether anyone likes him or not. An ERA in the low 4's and 200 innings would be fine if he can do it. I view him as very vulnerable in the AL. I think he will turn out to be like Brad Penny was for us: 5.61/1.534 WHIP, or maybe slightly better.

Dempster will be the Ace of the staff by June.

I'm not concerned about Lester, Buch and Doubie---I think Lackey, Dempster, Morales, Aceves and  RDLR  would be as good a starting 5  based on Lester', Doubie's  and Buch's numbers from last season.

after a rough start in Tex he pulled it together and won 7 games. Hes not expected to be a top or middle of the rotation starter. If he can give us 200IP and an ERA around 4, he will have done his job IMO.

No way he gives an ERA over 150 IP plus of "around 4". He'll do well to have an ERA "around 4.5". As for 200 IP, if he goes that many, the Red Sox had better score a lot of runs for nearly all of this rejected into the market old man. Great leader for the Cubs....................................

Re: Not a Great Start for Dempster

I still think that Soflaw is stealing the "Dumpster" schoolboy nickname

Softlaw doesn't steal anything. Softlaw has those who try and steal from him. Softlaw came up with Dumpster to describe players that teams refuse to pay the freignt anymore and figurativel take out the trash to the dumpster. When the Red Sox were rumored to be coveting Dempster, it was just a coincidence that it was an obvious and accurate sports entertainment name for a player who is all about being a team loser as he finishes one loser mercenary job after another. No GM in his right mind would gaurantee 26.5 million for this old loser.
