Now batting, and playing first base...number 11...CASEY KOTCHMAN.

I feel compelled to congratulate Casey for his perseverance. While living in Oregon in 2009 I tolerated all the demeaning comments and insulting references thrown his way. He toiled under the penetrating glare of unrelenting Boston baseball "fans" who probably never played a single day of any sport beyond the high school or little league level.

    Nice going Casey.

    Great season!

I know you have no malice toward those who silently sit and watch you run the bases with your .311 batting and .998 fielding (2 errors in 133+ games) average.

I hope you win your first gold glove dude!

Always loved his "D". Didn't advocate the trade, but there was no place or opportunity for him in Boston.

    Welcome back.

He didn't perofrm as a Sox,  Don't bet on him doing it again in 2012!

    2010 to 2011:

    Strikeout rate (K/PA): 12% (2010), 12% (2011)
    Walk rate (BB/PA): 6.3%, 7.3%
    Ground ball rate (GB/batted balls): 55%, 56%
    Line drive rate (LD/batted balls): 18%, 19%
    Home Run rate (HR/fly balls): 9.2%, 9.2%
    Isolated Patience (OBP – AVG): .063, .066
    Isolated Slugging (SLG-AVG): .119, .126

Those numbers paint a picture of a hitter doing nearly exactly the same things that he did across two seasons. There is one big difference though:

RBBIP (times reached base [including via error]/balls in play): .238, .377

    And thus:

    AVG: .217, .323
    OBP: .280, .389
    SLG: .336, .449
    OPS: .616, .838
    wRC+: 66, 133

Darn! Softy was right again! We should have stuck with Kotchman and not gotten Beltre, and platooned Mikey and Papi at DH last year!
