We have a few early returns in. Many precincts still to be heard from. So far, Ellsbury is batting.375. Sizemore is batting. 214.  For the " batting average is overrated " metrics crowd,  Ellsbury has an OPS of .902 . Sizemore has an OPS of .782.  Still way too early to predict a winner.

Right now Ellsbury looks a ton better than Sizemore--better hitter, better fielder (Sizemore has little range), and more likely to play every day.   I say this in the full knowledge I thought this head to head thread was a great idea.

as close as it gets.  i would almost call this one a tie as the CS wipes out the OA and the 2b matches up to the RBI.  If Grady caught that ball he crashed into the wall i would def give it to him.

    [/QUOTE]

we have been tracking Outfield Assists (OA) as that will be in the box score.  other than that, it would be easy to track Grady's everyday defense but i will not be watching every defensive inning of Yankees so will not know how many sliding/diving/wall banging catches ells comes up with.  i suppose that could come into factor the 18 times they play each other as every inning will be watched.  what do you propose lefty?

With all do respect this thread was a good idea but meaningless when you really think about it.  Ells is making 24mil more than Grady so we already have the best deal for the club if his health holds up.  You also have to factor in the rust on Grady compared to a player in Ells who has been playing each of the past three years.

Grady and the Sox win regardless of final Stats this season.  Even more so if JBJ and Grady both have good years.  Then we have two solid all round players making 23 plus less than one.
