Re: Old friend Bill Hall released by Astros

Softy continues to amaze.  Last year Bill Hall was practically his favorite player--versatile, could even pitch, hit home runs, you name it.  This year, after he's released, softy says it was crazy to think Hall could start.  I could have told you that last year because a righty's curve ball or slider almost always makes Bill Hall look very foolish.  Softy, you want to know why Hall got to play so much last year?  All the good players were injured.  It's like that inning he pitched when the bullpen was used up.  And now softy wants the Sox to pick up this loser and--what else?--dump Lowrie.  Madness.  Madness.  But that's softy.

[QUOTE]Hall and Cameron.  Two fine signings by Theo. Sheesh.

Hall was never signed by Theo.

The Sox traded Casey Kotchman to the Mariners for Hall, whose salary was being paid by the Brewers.

The guy was acquired to be a utility INF/OF and did an outstanding job at it.  For a guy who was paid very little by the Red Sox (and a lot by the Brewers), he actually turned out to be an extremely solid acquisition.

But then, obviously, you were a Casey Kotchman fan, I guess...

Hall and Cameron.  Two fine signings by Theo.

Theo did not "sign" BHall; he traded Kotchman to Seattle for BHall and the Brewers were still paying most of his contract that last year of his deal.

The thing with Hall is that he is strong and can hit the ball out, if he gets his pitch. However , he can be gotten out very easily if the pitcher follows through on the book way of pitching him. He is the classic example of a hitter who will not make the needed adjustments at the plate. Too late to expect him to change now.

I doubt the Sox pick up Hall again, but he should find work in the National League somewhere.

Hey, Harnut, Hall isn't out of baseball at 31, he'll be picked up as soon as the paperwork is all signed an sealed and might even get paid twice. Now, Jason Varitik is a 40 year old divorced loser who is washed up, even as a backup catcher. Can't wait until the Red Sox show him the door, which should be by the end of this season. 2 to 3 more years his lastest loser girlfriend says, yea, let's just see how long the Rays will pay him.

Boston has some stalls for Bill Hall to clean. Oki and DiceK have been run out of town on a rail, with Gammons cheerleading.

The All Semi-Great Predictor Depth Chart!

    1b Kotchman, VMart
    2b Hall ( 6 tools ), Patterson
3b not needed w/ Lugo plus range
    SS Lugo ( AAA )
LF not needed w/ Lugo plus range
    CF Crisp ( .304 OBP ), Hall
    RF Patterson ( .524 ), Hall
    C VMart ( .507 as C ), Hall
DH Cameron vs LHP, Kotchman vs RHP

    SP DiceK
    RP Oki, Hall

PA: Many of the players you have championed have actually svcked, do you think it is advised to keep making talent evaluations?

SGP:  The more you write the less people actually read.  I'm poplar with folks named after Mexican food  and in my Bible study group.

PA: Which of Bill Hall's 6 tools failed him the most, causing him to be released and replaced by the player he was signed at a fair cost to replace?

SGP:  I evaluate athletic abililty more than baseball skills, like I did with Lugo.

PA: Lugo had .643 OPS in 2007, many of your other "athletes" sit around .600.  At what level of awful is a player a bust?

SGP: Lugo was not a bust.

PA:  How did you handle the 50 / 50 AGon debacle of a prediction?

SGP: First I claimed I wrote 100%, but when the old post surfaced, I used two diversionary tactics. I started to harp on about the week and a half they waited to sign him and I wrote really really long posts so most lost interest and the will to live.

PA: Do you have more respect for what you called "AAAA NL pitching" after Bill "Sunk Cost" Hall faired so terribly in the launching pad in Houston? Why didn't Houston keep him as a $3m UIF like you recommended the Sox do?

SGP:  Houston paid him $3m to start, the Sox should have paid him £3m to back-up. That would have worked.

PA:  You alone find racism and socialism everywhere, why don't you find sexism in your erextion jokes about Heidi?

SGP:  When will the questions about Wakefield start?

Don't look now, but Lowrie isn't the elite SS you said he was.

Your depth chart isn't what Softlaw listed for positions, not that facts matter to you. Hey, how is Lowrie trending v. RHP? Not too good.

Jed's got another tingle, which might be his butcher fielding and hitting v. RHP. Opening for Bill Hall, almost zero cost, UIF'er who opens up another roster spot for Mac's old 5th OF'er spot. Bill will be ready to play, even if Red Sox fans hate players that look like Bill. Bill's a great guy.

Re: Old friend Bill Hall released by Astros

Hemimngway isn't a good source for moral teaching. That might be your problem. I heard that Weiner was a huge Papa Hemmingway acolyte.

Tom-uk, did you get any emal attachments from Weiner? I deleted all the ones he spammed on my email account, which were entitled "Republicans are going to push your Grandmother off a cliff and take away her Medicare". I openend it up to see if I could find the email address to report the spammer, and was shocked to see a naked picture of Weiner with the caption "Big Package!"

Hall was let go, but Weiner is such a natural Democrat. So he lied, over and over, about sending lewd photos to women he didn't know, live and let live, right Tom? He didn't break any laws or moral codes. He didn't do anything wrong. He's human, we all lie. All people need to rally behind a Weiner, but don't get to close behind. Besides, he said he was huge fan of baseballs. I call upon Weiner to stay if office and represent the same kind of people as he is, the ones who voted him office. He is the kind of guy they believe in and trust, and support. He is the kind of character they are. They will re-elect him, as long as he shall live.

Sexism is OK in Weiner's book, too. And Clinton's book. Is it alright in your book? Was beat babe Benji treated as fairly as sideline reporter babe, Heidi? is that fair?
