    Old Thread

Rafael Sorriano, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada anyone ?

The Yanks are currently paying more than triple market value for
    their players.

Jorge Posada isn`t hitting like a real DH right now... Jorge Posada is
hitting like a DA (Designated for assignment). Derek Jeter is currently
suffering from ARS (Age-Related Slump). Mark Teixeira is finally establishing himself as a .250 hitter.

A.J.Burnett is probaly a good five innings pitcher. Mariano Rivera
isn`t pitching like the old Mariano... and to make worse, Mariano
has more miles in his gas mileage than an old Ford Pickup truck.

A-Rod the highest paid player in baseball is off to a good start,
but his age and hip issue may turns this smoking gun into a water
pistol. And the Yanks Nation is already felling very sorry for the
    costly acquisiton of Rafael Sorriano.

The Yanks are paying million and million of dollars for these atletes,
and they are getting small returns for their huge investment.
The Yanks are a good team, but the price is too high... their
price is even higher than the Empire State Building

On the hand, The Red Sox are also paying top dollars to their players,
but they may get better returns for their money than the Yanks.
Carl Crawford and J.D Drew are the only players on Sox roster that
are not earning their money right now. But the good news is that
Crawford is still very young and J.D Drew is playing his last year in
Boston. Also the Red Sox have the best defenseve & SP rotation
    in baseball.

The Red Sox are young and exciting. In term of long term investment,
Theo Epstein will get better returns from his investment. The facts are
    there. Trust me.

    Thanks for reading...

    -SB

It all sounds good, but those pesky Yankees are still 3 games up on us in the standings, their team OPS is 109 points higher than ours and their team ERA is 46 points better than ours.

The main function of the average Simple-Beni thread is to attempt to distract from the fact that the Yankees are playing better than the Sox.

    A true story

A Bronx tale:  Kei Igawa is waiting for the call in the minors. Chan Ho Park is ready to make his return as well, as long as the Yankees write out another fat check to him. What's the tally up to in wastefull spending in Yankee land? Lets see; Jeter-over $50 million thrown away. Feliciano-$8 million (mere bag of shells) Damaso Marte-still owed $4 million (chump change by Yankee standards) And Soriano-OH BABY! a whopping $35 million! His contract makes Oliver Perez's deal look like the Mets got a bargin!

    B/R

    For the record...

The Boston Red Sox, who got off to their worst start since 1945, have suddenly turned things around, sweeping their four-games series with the Los Angeles Angels, the first time the Sox swept a four-game series in Anaheim since June 1980.

Sox starting pitchers have now gone nine games in which starters have gone at least five innings while giving up less than three runs, the longest such streak since 1946. Sox starters have logged a 0.88 ERA during the current span

Yanks Are Paying More than Triple Market Value For their Players- Sox Getting Better Value

    what's your point pike

at least we had enough money left over  for a catcher

Money also was mentioned when talking about the Red Sox' catching situation, as Jarrod Saltalamacchia's early season struggles have meant more playing time for Jason Varitek.

"I know what they were trying to do. They looked around. They didn't have money to spend," Gammons said. "They couldn't go get Bengie Molina. They weren't going to spend the money at this point. So, they decided that the best way to go was to let Jason catch a lot for a couple of weeks, let Salty work and hopefully get him back to where he was in spring training, when the season opened.

"Whether that holds up, it's still a precarious situation. They clearly don't feel they have the answer in the minor leagues. So, what do they do? I don't know. I know they've reached out to backup guys with the Mets that haven't been able to do anything. Backup catchers who can catch four days a week are really hard to find. They're finding that right now.

"What the alternative is, they just don't seem to have it. So, they have to hope that Saltalamacchia works out on this homestand and takes over and goes back to where they thought he was going to be. Otherwise, this whole medical staff declaring Russell Martin unsignable will raise its head the way it did with Jason Bay two years ago."

Even though Kevin Millwood has won both of his minor league starts and posted a 1.29 ERA, scouts say he doesn’t look very good. Millwood, whose fastball is averaging 85 mph, can opt out of his contact with the Yankees this Sunday.

Why should Smiley point out RS flaws?  Nearly 80% of the threads are something about RS flaws; would the forum be better if Beni just piled on everything negative about the Red Sox?
