Rafael Sorriano, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada anyone ? The Yanks are currently paying more than triple market value for their players. Jorge Posada isn`t hitting like a real DH right now... Jorge Posada is hitting like a DA (Designated for assignment). Derek Jeter is currently suffering from ARS (Age-Related Slump). Mark Teixeira is finally establishing himself as a .250 hitter. A.J.Burnett is probaly a good five innings pitcher. Mariano Rivera isn`t pitching like the old Mariano... and to make worse, Mariano has more miles in his gas mileage than an old Ford Pickup truck. A-Rod the highest paid player in baseball is off to a good start, but his age and hip issue may turns this smoking gun into a water pistol. And the Yanks Nation is already felling very sorry for the costly acquisiton of Rafael Sorriano. The Yanks are paying million and million of dollars for these atletes, and they are getting small returns for their huge investment. The Yanks are a good team, but the price is too high... their price is even higher than the Empire State Building On the hand, The Red Sox are also paying top dollars to their players, but they may get better returns for their money than the Yanks. Carl Crawford and J.D Drew are the only players on Sox roster that are not earning their money right now. But the good news is that Crawford is still very young and J.D Drew is playing his last year in Boston. Also the Red Sox have the best defenseve & SP rotation in baseball. The Red Sox are young and exciting. In term of long term investment, Theo Epstein will get better returns from his investment. The facts are there. Trust me. Thanks for reading... -SB

You know who else is getting "better value" ........ the Pirates! Of course they suck, and although they won't for the whole season, up til now... so have the Sox. Your "value" calculator might be poorly calibrated. -

And who is Smiley to determine what "triple value" is anyway? Or double value or whatever value? What does he, work for Warren Buffet? What makes him the expert on value to any team or their economics? Where does he dig this up? Smiley, show us the article that says this. -

Actually, Bartolo Colon is a fluke... it`s like having a majorsnow storm in late May.To believe Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon will remain two-fifths of theYankees' rotation for the remainder of the season would be naive. -

Each right-hander has a history of serious injuries, and they are well on the back side of very good careers. And you better start looking for a lead-off hitter, because you don't have one.

Its no fluke that Beckett got taken deep 2x last night and I don't believe both Garcia and Colon will be 2/5's of the rotation......another pitcher from the Mariners may be here as well so someone will get bumped. Cheer up Smiley Lester goes tonight. -

No, it's more like an an example of a "low risk high reward" signing. Like when Epstein signed Smoltz and Penny. Except these, Colon and Garcis, are working, .. at least for now. -

mikey, beckett had a good outing last night. granted, not as good as his three previous starts, but other than a few batters in one inning, looked solid. he did his job and kept his team in the game. to say colon is "pitching much better" than josh beckett did last night is a stretch. -

Colon is pitching better than Becketts last start. Look at Colon's last game and his other start (hes only had 2 starts). I'm not denying that Beckett is younger and is expected to have a better year but in regard to last night Colon's was better.

The feeling was that the FO was cheap and should spend $$$ like the Evil Empire does. It just goes to show that low risk / high reward moves sometimes work out well. Of course, that forum movement was led then by the Pied Piper named Law and his army of cynics and skeptics followed his every word. It was mob behavior led foolishly astray by the poster with all of the charisma named Law. Why doesn't our Yankee contingent in here have a Pied Piper like Law? Just think of what they are missing.

Penny was not that bad in June and July of 2009. And, I did expect Smoltz to perform better than he did. Those weren't terrible signings, they just did not work out. -
