...go get Chris Davis. Can you say 'new closer'? Guy has ice flowing through his veins! -

Buch and Salty need to find their games; they need to get things figured out with the PawSox not at the major league level. Missing two pop-ups for a major leaague catcher is hard to accept. There must be a few players namely Lavarnway and Ciriaco that can hit as well if not better than DMac and Punto and a starting pitcher---Duckworth, Germano or Ohlendorf that can get some people out---either that or move Padilla into the rotation and bring Melancon or Wilson up. -

I see a lack of confidence coming from the mound, not only his glove, but calling a game too...... Have you seen Salty call for a "PURPOSE PITCH" SINCE HE HAS BEEN WITH THE SOX ???

There isn't just one move that will make this team better.
I think we witnessed the funeral of the red sox over the weekend. If the losing continues, the sox should unload anyone who they think is a problem, starting with youk now. -

The team isn't going anywheres. Catchers are hard to find. May as well give Salty every last chance to be your catcher for next few years. -

He would come to boston and completely S - - K. Seems to be the trend.

There is no one fix for this team.
The BP has gotten better, but they aren't a great BP.
The SP has settled down a bit but they still have troubles.
AGON is struggling (probably hurt). Ells is still on the DL.
There isn't one fix that will make this team "good", let alone a contender. -

This is a JOKE??? With the multitude of problems, a new CLOSER is what you think fixes things???
Are you for real? Aceves has been an iron man, with a rubber arm! The BP looks better, & certainly isn't the root of the problem right now!
With the starting pitching still stinking up the joint, the bats gone absolutely silent, a complete lack of heart, fight, TEAM first, attitude, you come up with a new closer as THE ANSWER??? Are you on crack? Do you even watch the games, or are you one of the pink hats who hears something & gloms on to it? That story was resolved by Aceves stepping up weeks ago........ After a rocky start, the guy has been nothing short of phenomenal.
WAKE UP! -

No, he was just facing the RS line-up. And BTW, can someone please explain to me again (I pleaded last year too!) why a guy who can't hit .200 is on the ML roster--oh, my bad, he's our 17th inning relief guy! -

There's a problem right there....why should the catcher HAVE to call for a purpose pitch...? How about hitting the outside corner instead of the middle of the plate? Lets not blame pitch location or even slection on the catcher, its up to the pitcher to control both of those things.
Salti isnt a great catcher, but lets be real, either was Tek for the last 5 years. A catcher who is hitting .240 isnt the problem. Too much money spent on older and enititled players and not enough spent on youth. -

If there is one move that the Red Sox need to fix the team, get rid of these high paid contract players!!! They are so wasteful!!! -

If I'm Ben, I look at this as an opportunity. Lots of work needs to be done but if he can fix the errors of Theo he can be a legend. No one has done more to mess up this team currently than Theo..... -

My words exactly. It will mean eating some of their contracts, but it is the only way to rid this team of these players and contracts. Time to deal Crawford, Gonzo, Beckett, Youk, Buch, Lackey. I am sure some team out there would like to have some of these overpaid Sox players. -

No one is taking cc or andrian unless the sox eat much of the contracts. It may have to come down to that. -

No one move will do it. As for the move cited in the OP, since the 15-9 debacle at Fenway against the Yankees, Aceves has been perfect as the closer. And unlike Papelbon, he is fine with pitching more than one inning.
Buchholz definitely has problems and maybe he should go back to Pawtucket, but who will start in his stead?
AGon is definitely subpar, but is also too good a player to let go. Don't forget 2/5, Ells and Youk, of last year's big five are on the DL. Fortunately, Middlebrooks is filling in pretty well for Youk, but Byrd is not Ellsbury.
The bullpen overall has been terrific for the last 13 games in a row.
The biggest problem is the starting pitching. -

Posted by maxbialystockAgree with you that starting pitchings is the main problem, but so is the offense. If you look at the last ten games, Boston scored more than 4 runs twice including yesterday extra innngs games. It is just lack of clutch hitting especially from the middle of the line up!!!The middle of the line up need some changes. I dont mind seeing Agonz batting 9th, and put Ross at the 3rd or 4th spot!!! Who know that would work!! -
