Ortiz is as hot as I've ever seen him. Why does he need a rest now?

    In response to BOSOX1941's comment:

Resting Ortiz now is why I can't go along with Farrell as anything more than an average manager.

    He's a DH!

He doesn't play in the field !

Farrell, like Francona, must have scheduled this rest in February.

Unless Ortiz is hurting, this move is pure Francona buffoonery!!

With the roster at the start of the season, did you predict they would be leading the AL East after 120  games? Nobody did. Farrell deserves his share of the credit.

Farrell makes a decision you don't like, and now he's an average manager?

Are you privy to all the factors that go into making a decision like that ? Of course not.

Your armchair  managing is nothing more than that.

Another point I want to add is perhaps they want to make sure Ortiz is 100% rested and capable of being able to play in the field when they go over to play some NL games.  So instead of taking Ortiz out of the lineup we take Napoli out of the lineup and replace him with a pitcher.
