Yes, I know replies are important to you, this is why you jumped on the ortiz thread band wagon.

If Ortiz is not back soon, will you eat crow? There is the little matter of when he is back, what will we see him do.

Once again, it is not a matter of hating Ortiz.  It is a matter of him playing past his prime.   But let us hold out hope that he reurns and starts bashing the ball off the green monster.

Bubu, you are in denial.  You are an Oritz hater, admitting the problem is the first step in recovery.

I do enjoy your replies. We all need something to laugh out loud about. Keep 'em coming.

If my 71 game thread makes you laugh, then you are the one in denial.  That thread is one great prediction, something you have never even come close to on this board.  I would rather speak my mind then be a clone and play it safe.

    Nominated!

Yes, take y'alls time! Don't rush, make sure you are rested and healthy. There is no rush. You get paid the same, anyway. Sit on the beach, get your mind relaxed. A nice sojourn is what injured veterans need.

While they are on the Cape, they can look up  T K , I understand that he has been soba now going on 4 years !!!!!

Would love to play more .... but gotta go bench press Laughing

Whey did Drew stay in extended spring training while Ortiz decided to go to The Bronx?  Could it be that Drew is more committed in returning to the line-up?

The reason Drew stayed behind and Ortiz came up with the team is because Drew was going to be ready quicker, like that day.  Now that Ortiz has been cleared for games, he will head down for extended spring training then some minor league games to get ready.

Red Sox get good news on David Ortiz, Stephen Drew

At this writing, the Red Sox don't yet know the status of injured right-hander John Lackey, but they can console themselves with some good news regarding DH David Ortiz and shortstop Stephen Drew.

Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports that Ortiz, who's recovering from the Achilles injury he suffered last July, will face live pitching Sunday and should be able to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket next week. While there's no clear timetable for Ortiz's return to Boston, he's clearly making progress and getting closer.

The 37-year-old veteran slugger, who has 401 career home runs, is coming off a season in which he batted a robust .318/.415/.611 across 383 plate appearances.

As for Drew, Lauber writes that his recovery from post-concussion symptoms is almost complete. Drew has been limited since being struck by a pitch in early March. He'll play the full nine innings for Double-A Portland on Sunday and Monday and then, barring incident or setback, rejoin the Sox in time for Wednesday's home game against Baltimore.

The 30-year-old Drew, who signed to a one-year, $9.5 million contract for 2013, batted a combined .223/.309/.348 for the Diamondbacks and A's last season. For his career, Drew owns an OPS+ of 96.

    APRIL 19

The Sox have scored 36 runs in their first six games without the presence of designated hitter David Ortiz. Now Big Papi is set to play in his first game of the spring Monday.

Ortiz spent the weekend at the team complex in Fort Myers, Fla., doing base-running drills and taking batting practice. Now he will play in extended spring training games.

The tentative plan is for Ortiz to start a rehabilitation assignment with Triple A Pawtucket Thursday.

Pawtucket starts an eight-game homestand Thursday. Ortiz has said he would like 25-30 at-bats at Pawtucket before returning to the Sox.

Barring any setbacks, Ortiz could return to the Red Sox for the homestand that starts April 19.

The process will hinge on how Ortiz feels on a given day.
