Rosenthal says the Rangers are interested in Ortiz.  I think the Jays are another team that could be in play.

If the Sox are willing to over-pay him then the deal should be done already.... this is sad they are taking there sweet time dealing with someone who will be out of baseball within 3 years.

It may be taking so long because they are trying to find an ins. co. crazy enough to insure Ortiz's achilles for two years: Good Luck--LLoyd's of London might for a $10 M  Premium.

I think Baltimore could have some interest as well and can afford a 2 year deal...

To no one's surprise, the Red Sox have made the qualifying offer of $13.3 million to David Ortiz, according to this tweet from Alex Speier at WEEI:

    Ok, so who replaces him?

Another team will give him him a two year deal.

It just may not be for what he's currently asking.

Who are you...Borass? Who's this mystery team(s) that would offer more than a year?

The Yankees who are crying about luxury tax?

The Angels as they shed salary?

PHI as they try and move Lee because of money?

Texas is about the ONLY team that historically has spent some money and isn't try to free up cash. Sure, if he want to go to TB, they'd be happy to offer 2/10 (total).

Hm. Now it's 'reported' the Texas has 'interest'. Who from Texas has said that? Famous 'anonymous sources'?

Totally believable. For those interested, I just had a beer with Santa too. The Easter Bunny wanted to hang out, but we told him to p!ss off.

There is no interest.  All bs.  We can win 70 games with Papi or without him.  Give him a take it or leave it deal and move on.  Baseball IS a business.  Cherry just don't be Theo please.

Two sources told Peter Abraham that a deal is expected before the night is over

They did bid against themselves. They would have gotten a 2yr/$20M deal done.

Sorry to disappoint you all,but Ortiz will have a new 2 year deal with the Sox within the next 48 hours.I know you hate that he's returning with his team leading .318 batting average and 1.026 OPS,as well as having 56 walks in his 90 games, which also led the team BY FAR.I'm sure you'll cringe as he continues to blast HRs and drive in game winning RBIs.

But,despite how wrong you are,at least you'll have him to hate for the next 2 years,so that will give you something to complain about. That should make you happy.

Not sure that he bid against himself. In fact, he made him a qualifying offer in the interest of keeping him in the fold. During a period of exclusive negotiation rights (a window that is now much shorter)...One that apparently Papi and his agent found to thier liking...Please explain the incompetence...2 years @ 13M per, for a proven middle of the order bat, it's not like he gave him a 10 year/200M...
