In 2011 people are already saying that Ellsbury is the best all-around outfielder in the American League. His .300 BA and 22 doubles are the best among centerfielders in the AL.
Here's what Pedroia said after the All Star team was announced:
"We always thought he was an All-Star," Pedroia said. "He's just doing what he did two years ago. You can't play baseball with broken ribs. It's not like football or basketball. He took a lot of unfair criticism and the players in here stuck by him. He's getting the last laugh."
Are you one of them who owes Ellsbury an apology?

Jacoby Ellsbury was named an All-Star by the players. Last year he was criticized by some individuals on this forum for not playing. They posted that he should be out in the field even though he had broken ribs. They used different adjectives to describe his mental attitude. Some wanted to run him out of town. -

From NESN/July 9,2010
Fans and Boston media have made a big deal about Jacoby Ellsbury's extended absence from the Red Sox as he recovers from rib injuries, but no players commented on the situation. Until Friday.Speaking to reporters in Toronto, Kevin Youkilis -- who clearly played hurt Wednesday night in Tampa Bay -- said he and his teammates wish Ellsbury was with them.
"The one thing I say," Youkilis said, "is there's a lot of guys here that are hurt and supporting the team, and we wish Jacoby was here supporting us, too."
It was a strong statement lobbed at Ellsbury, who was expected to join the team this weekend in Toronto to be re-evaluated.
www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/07/youkilis_questi.html">
And from an interview on WEEI:
"I think that was more his agent and the Red Sox, but it's very important. As a player, it doesn't matter if you're hurt or not. You should be out there cheering on your team."

People say a lot of things that are wrong. Tex isn't in, but this guy?
Perfect time to offer this always overrated contract seeker for Kemp. -

Leave it to softy to make the "perfect" comparison -- Tex and Ellsbury.
I agree that Texiera should be in. But he plays FIRST BASE, not the outfield. So Ellsbury isn't selected in ahead of Texiera.
Softy -- perfect description of your posts -- why not pick an outfielder that should be in the All-Star game ahead of Ellsbury. At least try to sound intelligent once in awhile. -

No apology for me--I voted for him because he earned a slot on the all-star team.
Bad news for softy--another misassessment. Won't be long before he decides AGon just isn't good enough.
The ultimate misanthrope. -

You're not so hopeless afterall.
See -- they're outfielders. If you don't think Ellsbury belongs in the All-Star, you name other outfielders who belong, not a first baseman.
You should print out your post, put a gold star on in it and tape it to your refrigerator. I'll give you an "A" for following directions -- even a smiley face like my fifth-grade teacher used to do. (Hey, it was the '70s).
(Even though I don't know why your naming players who were already selected to play in the All-Star game, but one step at a time.)

Yes because OPS is the sole measurement of a player being good or bad. You did this with WAR before you try to find a stat that proves your point. How about the Sox hold on to one of their better bats and if they want to move on from Drew why make another whole in the lineup? -
