Poor pitching will only get us so far folks

Wake, Lackey and a weak pen just don't help this team.  Tonight's loss was just another recurring disappointment we all may face in the PS.  Next years rotation has to change for this team to meet our goals.  Also horrible managing by Tito out of the pen by using Albers and Wheeler over Aceves.  Big disappointment again overall.

Really?  You're questioning Tito and ripping him for not bringing in Aceves!?!  The guy who threw like 60 pitches 2 nights ago!?!

Half the board has already (correctly) torn him one for not bringing in Papelbon.  If you come to criticize, bring the right answers!!!

Why are some of you guys on this board overreacting over one game?

No wonder Johnny Damon left us five years ago.

Nevah forget! Johnny Damon left for more money after saying he wouldn't.

Now back to the present: Papelbon should have been brought in with the score 8-7 in the 8th. A very large mistake, yes, but not the end of the world. l'm not giving up on this team yet.

This team Is'nt going anywhere with this bullpen and weak starting pitching, except for Beckett and Lester.Plus their hitting is up and down, and Francona can't handle a pitching staff. They will be knocked out in the first round.

Umm. Lester and Beckett can't pitch every playoff game and if your looking for Lackey to save the day then :/

Aceves has thrown too may pitches, I am surprised he isn't fried already. Great assett who is over-used by necessity and because our manager refuses to let good starters go 7 or 8 innings.

Aceves is a very effective reliever, but the last few years he has burned out or gotten hurt in Spet/Oct, after all the pitches he threw the other night, it was the right thing to do not bringing him in the game. As far as Paps goes...most managers prefer NOT to bring their closers in during an inning with runners on base. They prefer to have the closer start an inning. Why burn Paps for 4 outs, when these games don't have a ton of importance....yes homefield and the division matter, but not to the extent that you start messing with well defined roles. The Sox did win a WS as a wildcard.

Pathetic effort tonight.  When our pitching doesn't pitch we tend to score runs.  When our offense doesn't show up we tend to pitch well.  That's been the story for about the last few weeks.

Inexcusable to lose a game like that tonight and inexcusable to lose 2 out of 3 to a team with no pitching and a mediocre lineup.

Too many bad contracts. Where is Dice-K? A guy gets paid a huge money without doing anything. This team won't win the AL-east anyway. It is a wild-card candidate at best. Not enough talents. Too fragile.

Re: Poor pitching will only get us so far folks

Does anyone here actually think the Yankees would have blown a game like this? Wonder how Paps feels about sitting the bench on this. You think Girardi would have left Rivera on the bench if his set up guy walked the 7th run? You think he would have brought in MATT ALBERS in to give up a 3 run double? The guy is mentally challenged plain and simple.  How about Monday night losing 1-0? Two men on and no outs and A-h*&e Francona can't put on a sacrifice bunt? If he is not the worst manager in baseball, then who is? I wonder how John Henry feels about paying the kind of money he did this year and have the team fighting for a playoff spot? (Don't be fooled in thinking the Sox are in the playoffs, because they are playing poorly and if they lose tonight with their "ace" Miller on the mound, and Tampa wins, it's only a six game spread and Tampa has a series at HOME against the Sox)  Francona needs to be let go. Also, I am tired of the Wild card spot. Win your F'in division you bunch of bush leaguers.

I wish we had Dice-K this year, but unfortunately, he had tommy john surgery.
He could have been a help to the Red Sox this year.

Justin Verlander obviously can beat Boston by going 8+ innings, and now the Tigers have Doug Fister who has pitched very well.... Fister has one more complete game than the entire Sox staff.  Detroit's offense however is inferior to Boston's. Should be a very close series if that is how it goes - we should not be too cocky in such a matchup.

I'd like to say this thread is totally entertaining and completely fresh in its expression.

But since I am a part of Liars Anonymous, I'm really trying to keep to the truth.

    But I pause to wonder....

How many times can we state there is trouble with our pitching before we stop acting like it's a brand new issue?

How many times can we say we can't beat anyone when we have beaten everyone and some of them even own the season series.  I won't name the Yanquis, because they su ck too and won't get out of the ALE  either ...

How many times can we say this team is a real disaster, after starting 0-6, 2-10, 4 games under .500 for a month .... and still be playing .600 (or so) ball and be within touching distance of the team that we've beaten 8, 9, 10, 11 times already?  That one 207 miles south of Boston ... in the Bronix ...

How many times we can cut player after player, not giving other baseball players credit for and occasional good game against us ... and consider that just might be BASEBALL....

It's lilke a damn lullaby, it repeats and repeats and repeats until even after the maddening tones one can't help but get bored and start to snore ....
