Possible option to trade Lackey?

    Possible option to trade Lackey?

Trading a bad contract for another may or may not work out but heres my opinion.  Trade a package including Lackey for Jambrano and/or Soriano.  We need a RHH OF and Soriano hits lefties pretty well with a 273 lifetime BA and 817 OPS.  We also need a strong number #4 so Zambrano playing on a team that wins may be just what the doctor ordered.

Lackey for Wright - I just don't see it. They are moving the OF walls in just for David.

Package him up with Beckett.  The 2 seem to be a pair.   Trade them to a team that no goes to see, where there's nothing to do and it gets real hot.  Someplace like Kansas City.  Houston would be an option but they have too nice of a stadium.

jessey, you never know what makes a guy like Zambrano tick.  Winning?  Being around a good bunch of guys or Aceves who could also start at #5 and a chance to win could change Z's attitude.

Re: Three possible options to trade Lackey?

Zambrano is a bigger head case than Lackey. Lackey makes faces at his teammates, Zambrano punches his teammates. And the money is not very even sided to boot, with Chicago having to take on about $45M while the RS would only take on $19M. Likely Chicago rather eat $15M and get some low level prospects back, assuming Zambrano who has a no trade plays ball.

John Lackey ($46.25 million through 2014), Daisuke Matsuzaka ($10 million through 2012) and Bobby Jenks ($6 million through 2012) to the Angels for an expensive righthand-hitting outfielder with AL East experience: Vernon Wells ($63 million through 2014).

The money matches up but two no-trade clauses would need to be waived.

    Trades that might work...

John Lackey & Jed Lowrie for BigZ and Soriano

Felix Doubront & Jed Lowrie for David Wright

Jose Iglesias & Anthony Ranaudo for Hanley Ramirez

Jose Iglesias, Anthony Ranaudo, Kevin Youkilis for King Felix & Chone Figgins

Jose Iglesias, Anthony Ranaudo, Ryan Kalish, PTBN for Matt Kemp & PTBN

Iggy, Youk, Doubront for Miguel Cabrera (for DHing purpose)

Re: Three possible options to trade Lackey?

Sorry, but it will be hard to watch this team with Lackey still on it.  I'm pretty sick over the developments of the weekend.  Tito deserved better from his players.  Whether you thought he was a good manager or a bad manager, he is certainly a good person that had the backs of this players.  He deserved better than to have his team not give 100% to win.

This Sox team could have been absolutely great.  Unfortunately, not everyone was committed to winning.

I hope Epstein and Tito go to the Cubs.  I'll get the MLB package and become a Cubs fan.

There's no way I want Lackey to get a ring.  And I can't see cheering for Beckett, who became part of the problem.

Good idea DW, Lackey has to pitch better in the NL right :) and Josh could win the CY Young if he can convince Tek to sign with the Stros.

Wait didn't Pettitte and Clemens already try and turn the Stros into a winner before?

The foolishness is in selling low and retaining high. Lackey was better towards the end, and will not be any worse than he is now. Nothing to lose by trying to rebuild some value in 2012 and then dealing him if he has a good year.

Yes, all the teams are rushing to the Sox door to grab Lackey's contract for their team's bad contract. Oh please, please, take Lackey and his 82 million, please...oh I know he pitched the worst single season by a Sox SP in Sox History, but yes, please just take him off our hands. Oh thank you, opposing team GM, this was a wise move on your part. You get a terrible pitcher and his terrible salary.....

Lespaul says that Theo should be fired for signing Crawford but they should keep Lackey.

Lackey is the one that should run out on a rail.  Lackey is a cancer.  He destroyed the team.

Posted by seannybboi[/QUOTE] In all trades including Iglesias and Ranaudo replace them with other players because they ain't going anywhere at least not anytime soon. Send them Scrubtaro and another pitcher and maybe you have a trade, but with Iglesias you don't need Hanley because though Hanley can hit he couldn't hold Iggy's jock defensively and I'll take the runs prevented vs the times that Hanley decides he's going to put 100% into his game offensively.

Zambrano wants to go to the Marlins with Ozzie Guillen.

Trading one bad contract for another doesn't usually work.     Barry Zito from the 'Frisco Giants for Lackey is just trading one lemon for another.

No kidding.  Maybe we can get Mariano Rivera for Jenks the same day.

I like Lackey for Zito.  Lack goes back to the quiet West Coast and he can complete his divorce in peace, and the Sox get... someone who's not Lackey.
