Elite - refers to a group of excellence.
Holliday fits that criteria, in the NL anyway.

That fits Holliday. He's 3rd in OPS among all hitters over the last 4-5 years.
That puts him in choice/elite company.
Any of his peers will tell you he is an elite hitter.

    Cam/Drew = 22 mil.
    CRAWBURY of 2012 = 26 mil.

Its just sad how he keeps trying to say the sky is green..Of course Holliday is an elite hitter..and of course its better with Crawbury+4mil than drew/cam..The sky is blue, not green..Some are colorblind..obviously

    Re: Possible Salary Dumps

That's why I advocated Papi of Dunn. Papi is a great hitter. Dunn isn't. Walking is all good and fine, but it doesn't alter the fact he's a .246 career hitter who clogs up the bases when he's on base.

harness, I only mentioned Dunn as a possible alternative to Papi. I never said I favored him over Papi at DH. I have always been for keeping Papi here until he retires.

My position on Dunn (before we got AGon & CC) was that he could play LF and 1B and maybe DH vs some LHPs.

Personally, I'd say 8th out of over 1,000 players is "elite", but leave it to you to cherry-pick his lowest placement timeframe to make your point.

Would you consider 3rd since 2006 elite?

Elite can be plural: it's not just the very best singular player.

He's certainly more "elite" and cheaper than CC.

You do not have a monoploy on word meanings.

    Elite can be plural.

Being 3rd, 5th or 8th out of over a 1,000 players would be considered "elite" by most people I know.

I notice that "ad hominem" is now used by more posters beyond the Softlaw group. The attack on Softlaw were both "ad hominem" and logical. "Ad hominem" for being the forum's #1 pretender, contrarian, devil's advocate, and troll. Logical for painting himself into a corner on Jake, Jed, Crisp, and Theo (as Law). His ego has been deflated but that means zilch to a career troll.

It's amazing how many teams are still technically "in it". Only Houston is way out of it in the NL, but SD (-14), LAD (-13.5), Cubs (-12.5), Florida (-11), and Colorado (-10) are pretty close to out of it. In the AL, only Baltimore (-17.5), Seattle (-14.5), Oakland (-13.5), KC (-11), and maybe Toronto (-9.5) are out of it. In total, 2 teams are way out of it (Houston & Baltimore) and 8 are probaly out of it, and 2 (Col & Tor) are very close. 12/30 are basically our of it or close to out of it.
