First, I would like to say that I think the idea of member/moderators is a great one. Although, I was actually under the impression that many of the sports forums already had member/moderators.
I wish the moderators well and as someone who manages a few web pages I know that sometimes these things can be very time consuming so hopefully all members of the forum appreciate the effort.
Next, I would like to say that I agree with the posters who don't want political discussions in the Sox forum. I post on many BDC forums ( and a few non-bdc forums) including the Politics forum. I would find it annoying if all of a sudden a lot of sports threads started happening in the Politics forum. I also don't think this Red Sox forum needs a dedicated political thread. BDC already has a political forum and if people want to start threads on politics then they should go there. It would be like someone posting Red Sox game threads in the Celtics forum!
I am guessing that most people would agree with me. The Political thread started by Pumpsie on the Off the Field Fodder forum is almost 2 years old and has only a handful of comments.
I would add that many of the forums were much more active when the front page of the BDC forums was working properly. Maybe when that is fixed they will be once again.
As far as Sox conversations that sometimes spin off into political discussions..I trust the member/moderators to be able to rein those in when needed. I and at least one other BDC poster participate in another forum which has a rather narrow subject matter. Every now and then a thread will deviate into an off -topic discussion and the moderators will let the conversation go for a few comments. If it continues beyond that however, they will post a gentle reminder to keep the conversation on topic. If it continues after that, any comments related to the off topic discussion are removed. I think this is more than fair.
