The God stuff is whatever.  It makes no sense to think God cares about sports but people using God to deflect accountability is nothing new, it is way simpler than actually thinking critically.

The schedule stuff is just pathetic.  He is about to collect 20 million a year for the next 7 years, shut up and deal with it.  It was in God's plan for you to play so many night games Adrian, or are you just another religious hypocrite who only invokes God when it is conveniant?

I like that Crawford said the right thing but I'd rather he caught the ball in the 9th.

A-Gon is embarrassing himself...just like Tito/Papi did with the whole interleague NO DH nonsense. Play the game. You get paid a TON of money to be on the field for 3.5 hours a day....just get it done. And when you dont, be accountable.

Besides the apology he ought to forfeit 3/4 of the 20+ million he stole from the team this year.

If he really cares, he'll retire and void his contract to steal another 125 million from the Sox.
    THANKS,THEO!

He only made 6 this year.  New contract begins in 2012.

F that, Crawford gets no props for anything.  What, he stated the obvious that he sucks and that it was the players fault for this collapase?  Why does he deserve props for that?  If he had made that catch last night then he would have something to deserve props for!

Well all things being equal I'll take the year Adrian Gonzalez gave us and his sound bit right after a crushing defeat over the year Carl Crawford had and his stand up sound bite.

BTW for every arm chair manager here that crushes Francona for resting guys, playing Gonzalez 159 games took its toll when magnified by the schedule challenges that a marquee franchise like the RS face with so many Sunday night games etc.

it seems to me a player did donate his salary to charity after a subpar season so I don't think it's totally out of the realm of possibilites

If Agone was so tuckered out maybe he should have passed on the HR derby and hit up one those world class spas in Scottsdale or Sedona for some much needed R & R.

JD "Roger Dorn" Drew   meet Adrian "Roger Dorn" Gonzalez.

Crawford is a stand up guy in left field. A stand up comedian that is. Guy couldn't catch a fly ball if he had a glove the size of Rhode Island.

If AGon is so tired from the night games then he should be very happy that the Sox ended up in 3rd place in the AL East. The playoffs are all night games and we wouldn't want Adrian to get any more tired than he already is. Please, that is the dumbest excuse ever. The God thing was bad enough, the being tired from ESPN night games is too much. You would never hear whining like that from Pedroia.

If he'd have made that catch, the game would have gone to extras. You actually think we'd have won?
But I guess you're right, he could have blamed God. Or God Shammgod.

Crawford did not catch the ball because mentally he did not want to be in a position to make a play with the game on the line. Some athletes thrive on pressure and want to be the one to make the play with the game on the line while others, like Crawford, want no part of it. When a athlete feels this way they lack confidence and misplays eventually result.

Re: Props to Crawford for being a stand-up guy

This has been my biggest beef as to how the Red Sox FO evaluates free agents/trade possibilities.  They put too much weight on stats, and do not put enough emphasis on whether a player can actually handle playing in Boston.

Gonzalez thrived in laid-back San Diego.  Crowds of 15-20,000, no pressure, no media scrutiny, easy schedule, and fans that care more about their botox injections than baseball. His comments and complaints prove that.

The same can be said for Crawford, Lackey, Lugo, Drew, Renteria, etc.  The list goes on and on with players that Theo and Co coveted that can't or couldn't cut it in RSN.  Sure, a few could handle it (Schilling, Papi, etc), but that list is small.
