Pretty amazing to think that soxprospects.com has 3 of our pitching prospects ranked ahead of Ranaudo and a few close behind:

    3) Owens

    7) Rodriguez

    8) Johnson

    9) Ranaudo

    11) Barnes

    13) T Ball

    15) Kopech

    18) Escobar

    22) Hembree

Then, there's recent prospect graduates de la Rosa & Webster.

Nice bunch of names here to add with 26 year old Joe Kelly.

Ranaudo to me is the favorite to head the class. I believe the Sox could get the most for him followed closely by Owens--the guy I would not trade that knows how to pitch now, how to effectively change speeds now and is Major League Ready Now is Brian Johnson. The SeaDogs need Johnson, Rodriguez and Haley as starters and Noe Ramirez and Robby Scott in relief as they prepare for the playoffs.

Webster and Workman would be trade bait---Workman , if he is with the Sox next season, pen...Webster to me is about #12 on the list nor lower.

That list in itself explains prospects, some of those guys have done very little to nothing in the majors while a couple of them have been real gems.

FWIW the year before Ranaudo also won Eastern league player of the year.  Maybe this is a trend? ROY next year???  Why start lowering expectations now?

I thought by implying that Ranaudo would have to win the ROY because he won an award the last two years was showing I wasn't being serious or literal, I'm sorry if I conveyed it that way.  Yes minor league awards mean nothing to me and you, but I'm sure they mean something to the players.

Just like minor stats mean nothing either.  No one remembers how many home runs Babe Ruth hit in the minors.

My point, the serious part at least was that some of the guys who end up on this list are guys, they are prospects who sometimes turn out to be great players.   Take that at face value, I don't think that implies it means anything other than it is something to be hopeful an optimistic about.

So it's official now, we've pretty much known this for almost a week.  He's looked good in his few starts this year hopefully that trend continues.  Ranaudo has had health issues in the past and now that he's put 2 back to back full seasons together he has really come a long way.

It would be great to see Ranaudo put together 4 more solid ML starts.

He's fought back from health issues. His ranking on soxprospects.com started at #7 overall in SEP 2010. He rose to #2 byt the summer of 2011 and APR 2012, but then fell quickly to #12 and #15 by SEP 2012. Then...

    APR 2013: 13

    JUN 2013: 6

    SEP 2013: 6

    APR 2014: 7

    JUN 2014: 5

Let's see where he ends up at the end of this season.
