    Rays finalize deal withYunel Escobar

The conterversial SS will be playing in Tampa for 2013 for 5M with 2 options for the same price. Hes known to be a major PIA and I wonder if playing on that young team without much veteran presence will hurt them.

Wow! Thanks for the link. For a spare part really.... Escobar was not expensive by any means.

I dont see anything in his numbers that suggest he is any good.... he cannot even steal bases. Glad he isn't here.

I'll agree with that. I was just amazed that the Marlins seem to be dumping any player over the league minimum.

Rays are a team believing in metrics and finding Escobar's WAR to be very reasonable. In fact, metrically speaking, he is a bargain.

Rumors are that the RS kicked his tires as well

Escobar put up good numbers while he was with the Braves.  But since being traded to Toronto, he has been so-so.

The Rays need to find any kind of offense possible.  So I guess they are willing to gamble on him.

Toronto GM: "Escobar, you've been traded to the Marlins."

    a month later,............

Marlins GM: "Escobar, you've been traded to the Rays."

    LOL

Re: Rays finalize deal withYunel Escobar

Apparently Escobar, upon being traded to the Marlins, said he was ok with moving to 3B.  Then, this week he told them he was not comfortable playing 3b; thus necessitating this trade.  For the Ray, he is an upgrade.  Iglesias might just have the better metrics by the end of 2013, though.
