There are extremely limited situations when I can (grudgingly) root for the NYY. This is one of them. Innocent

That is easy.  Definitely root for the Yankees.  I really dislike the Rays and don't ever want to see them win.  They are just an annoying team with no fans.  It is also important that the Red Sox start winning more games for the rest of the season.

Just root for the Sox to win. If that happens, we'll be ok.

I rooted for the O's this week Vs. the Ray's and the Ray's took 2 of 3.

This time I'm for the Ray's in hopes the Yankees continue to sweep--I think they are 11-5 since ARod's return. Maddon may have something cooked up for ARod...Go Ray's sweep Yankees.

    I don't like the Ray's either--I agree, I think it's the fans.

Best case scenario: Sox sweep the Dodgers and Yanks sweep the Rays and A's sweep the O's.  Then ALE standing would look like

    1. Red Sox

    2. Rays 4.0 GB

    3. Yankees 6.0 GB

    4. BAL 8.5 GB

    fXXX the Jays.

Jim, if a guy roots for any team at the Trop, does he make a sound?

Root for no one.  No true Red Sox fan would ever root for the Yankees to win.  Ever.

Root for Boston to beat L.A.

Root for them to play three fifteen-inning games that destroy both bullpens.

I'll go with that.  I want to finish first.  I don't want to have a one-game WC playoff.

The ultimate goal is a Red Sox championship, not seeing the Yankees lose. Our best chance for that is if we win the division -- we need to take the division, not settle for the wild-card and risk everything on a one-game playoff against an opponent like Oakland. Tampa is currently breathing down our necks in the division race, while New York is not much of a threat at the moment. They can fall flat on their faces in every other series of the year for all I care, but like it or not, the best-case scenario this weekend for our playoff chances is one where the Yankees take two or even three from the Rays and allow us a little breathing room and margin for error.

However, it looks like you may get your wish tonight, as Tampa is currently spanking New York 7-2 in the 9th. If the Rays win, we have to win tonight to stay ahead of them, and even if we do win we will gain no ground. If you think that is a better outcome, please explain why.
