Garza always seemed to be a bit of a strange puppy but I like his competitiveness.  I was very surprised the Rays let him go because of the way he pitches against us.  Losing Bartlett, Garza and Crawford I feel really took Tampa's identity away.

I would love to have Garza and wouldn't be surprised to see the Yanks pursue him just because of the way he pitches against us.

    Definitely worth a look.

No pitcher in all of MLB is pitching over his numbers better than Garza, who has been comptely victimiezed by the Cubs' horrific defense...

Heck yeah! Garza is a very solid mid-rotation pitcher.

Price needs to be fair, though.

The question is, should the Sox pay as much as the Cubs did?

Would anyone go as high as Britton, Navarro and Linares?

Can we send Dice-K and Ben Affleck to the Cubs for Garza?  LOL

notin, I would offer that trio. All three have some talent, but they are also pretty raw. None are can't-miss starters in the majors.

Cubs would have to get a lot in that trade, including a majors-ready arm to replace Garza, who is under Cubs control through 2013. What arm might that be, Jenks?Money mouth

Garza is a pretty tough kid.  It would be a big boost to the Sox staff.

I don't believe it.  Unless Buchholz' injury is season-ending, there's no reason to trade prospects for a #4 starter.  The Sox still have plenty of pitching depth for now.

Especially when it seems most of you are okay with a #4 who is 5-11 with a 6.00 era. If that is what qualifies for a #4 or 5 than I am all set.

I was referring to the general boards acceptance of Lackey with the excuse he makes a terrific #5. I would have thought Dice-K made a good #5 but that was never the case here, the fandom seemed to dislike Dice more than any other starter in years.

Garza is not a bad pitcher, just spits too much during the game. Laughing Thats said I cannot see trading top prospects for him when 99% of our starting staff is inked through 2012 and it is well paid.

    Re: red sox after garza....

Garza would be a solid #4 in the rotation. A playoff rotation of Beck, Lester, Clay, and Garza would be pretty solid. The only issue is Cubs want prospects that are Major league ready, and Sox are pretty short on those at the moment. It should be a very interesting development to watch, and critical if Clay or Lester are down for the long term
