Red Sox discussed blockbuster with Rangers

08:16 AM ET 08.01 | How close was Josh Beckett to returning to his home state? According to multiple major league sources, one potential deal discussed by the Red Sox and Rangersprior to the non-waiver trade deadline included a package that would have sent [Beckett], Jacoby Ellsbury and Kelly Shoppach to the Rangers. It is unclear what player compensation the two teams discussed going from Texas to the Red Sox in such a deal. The proposal was described by one source as nothing more than a theoretical back and forth of ideas that never progressed to the point where the Red Sox approached Beckett to discuss his '10-5 rights.' ... Another source classified the talks as having reached a more advanced stage before hitting a wall.

What would we have gotten for Ellsbury, Beckett, and Shoppach?

    WOW!

So besides a whole lot less attitude, wonder what they were getting back?  Olt, Profar and Perez?

David Murphy, so we could have 25 lefty players.
Olt is nice, but the Sox don't need him.
I think it was another Rob Bradford CYA article for Cherington.
Poorly developed story, with no mention of who'd come to the Sox.
Bradford is a house boy, like Merloni and Caron.

[QUOTE]The Rangers don't have a single player that the Red Sox need. No surprise that they tried to unload Ellsbrick and Beckett, though. Better late than never.

I'd take Andrus or Profar. Sure to be part of that discussion.

This a "theoretical back and forth of ideas...." they are called trade rumors, because they just that, rumors.

The Miami/Red Sox blockbuster talk turned out to be nothing and this likely was nothing too.

Texas will never get rid of Andrus.  SS is so hard to find in MLB.  Other than Jeter, Andrus along few others, most SS have moved from one team to another!!  Texas is fortunate to have a very good defensive and hitting SS.

    Nolan Ryan is not stupid.

This trade rumor was made up from a media guy who got the story from another media guy.

Yeah, they only went to two WS in a row. Obviously they don't have any worthwhile players for our .500 club.
I'd take Hamilton and Cruz over any of our corner OF any day.
I like Kinsler, too. Guy is clutch, and has put up better numbers than Dustin, the past couple of years.
Mike Napoli would look good in Boston.
That's not counting their pitching staff.
    Any more dumb statements?
