Red Sox honor JD Drew.........sort of

    Tongue out.....

    By Peter Abraham, Globe Staff

Finally some good news from Fenway Park. The Sox have retired the number of fan favorite J.D. Drew.

Drew hit a robust .264 during his five years in Boston, averaging 16 home runs and 57 RBIs per season. He also was a friend to many a backup outfielder by giving them bountiful chances to play.

Drew did not attend the ceremony on Van Ness St., having left before reporters arrived.

"Aw, heck, I'm honored," he said in a team statement.

Thanks to loyal reader Dan from Arlington who passed along this photo and allowed us to have a little fun. And get that "2" fixed before Pudge Fisk sees it.

Trot Nixon, Rick Burleson , Dom Dimaggio, and Reggie Smith also wore #7.

If the number really ever is retired it will have nothing to do with J(ust) D(oing nothing) Drew.

I still cannot believe that Epstein gave Drew a 5-year, $70 million deal.  Scott Boras sure does make anyone look great.  lol

$85 million spread over 5 years for the 2007 Championship, I'll take it.  Yankees $200 million last year for nothing....oh and CC just robbed them for and extra 3+ million a year.  Bang up job Mr. Cashman, throwing away obscene amounts of others money and returning nothing.  Your reward for utter failure - new contract.
