Even after he'd thrown a no-hitter in the major leagues, Clay Buchholz had to wait half a season at Pawtucket in 2009 for an injury to create space for him.

It's not going to hurt Webster to keep pitching at Pawtucket for most of the rest of this season -- or all of the rest of this season -- to refine the command of his pitches to both sides of the plate.

Aceves has a 3.13 ERA in four starts for the PawSox, though he's still walked 11 hitters in 23 innings -- still probably too many for a pitcher sent down in part to work on his command.

If the Red Sox need someone to make a start in the major leagues, whether Aceves or Webster gets the call probably will depend more on where they are in the rotation than anything else.

It's good to have more than one option in the Pawtucket rotation just in case the need for a pitcher doesn't line up with Webster's availability.

That said, the last time the Red Sox needed a starter, Aceves was lined up but still didn't get the call.

There are several power-hitting prospects in the system -- most notably Xander Bogaerts, who's still young but has the chance to hit 30 home runs on a regular basis in the major leagues.

Part of the reason, too, is that the Red Sox rarely draft at the top of the first round where the Ryan Brauns and Prince Fielders tend to come off the board.

They'd love to get a crack at college slugger Kris Bryant in this draft, but it doesn't seem like he's going to get to No. 7.
