Great last year he beat one good team once. He should carry this team to the promised land.

He has good stuff though AL, just needs to get a grip on his control issues. Work in progress and has shown some promise. Hopefully whoever the new pitching coach is can work some magic with him. He deserves another shot
and more time than he was given last season IMO

The key question is...did Miller sign a major league contract or a minor league contract. He has wonderful stuff, but he needs more time at AAA to work on his control

If Miller is signed for minor league contract, it would be a good first move at the winter meeting by new GM.  He has excellent body figure and good pitches as a starter.  Like eveybody mentioned above, he needs to control those pitches.  He should be starting the season at the minor until he commands his stuff.

    Better than signing Wakefield!!

He was suppose to go thru the salary abritration case, and also he is a non-tender candiate.  So sound like he avoid the case, and sign a minor league contract with incentives.

Miller was quite decent on the road. If the contract is for no more than 1M plus incentives the value is there. Minor league contract would be better, I would like to see details................................

It was frustrating to watch him last year, just venting as to the Red Sox lack of doing anything at this years Winter Meetings. Just because they have been burned on a couple of free agents under Theo's Rgime does not mean that every free agent is a bad choice.

Does not matter whether it is a minor league or a major league contract.  The story stated that his contract is not guarantee, and it is more likely it will not cost anything to Boston if they cut him during Spring training!

I hear ya, AL. He was one step forward, two steps back. With some time and work, Miller may prove to be what they hoped for. Low risk move, which could end up paying dividends.

This certainly ranks right up there as one of the best off-season acquisitions! BC has started the winter meetings off right by signing a Red Sox.
Wasn't his ERA higher than Wake's?
Perhaps now he can get right down to business, maybe even negotiate with another team this time.

Miller road ERA was better than Wastefield. Miller is young and has more potential than Wastefield. But remember, this is a minor league non-guaranteed contract, which amounts to a paid tryout.

We all knew he had control issues, but I was also disappointed with his stuff last yr.  Not only was he all over the place, his fastball was usually sitting in the 91-92 mph range.  I really didn't see much evidence of the plus fastball and slider that made him such a high draftpick.

miller was ok for a FA pick up...and he requires no caddy and is fit....one more nail in the Wakefield coffin

Re: Red Sox re-sign Andrew Miller...

I just hope Boston isnt having too many players for tryout for the #4 and #5 starting pitching staff spots.  Cuz they stated that they would let Bard/Aceves to tryout as a starting pitcher, and then Boston signed Miller today.  Who know they may sign one more pitcher for a tryout.  What if all four tryout pitchers did a terrible job during the spring training, and of course, Boston can move Bard/Aceves back to bullpen.  Still they will lack dept in the rotation!!

That is why I do hope that Boston do get a decent middle of the pack rotation via trade or free agency.

Minor league contract is okay. Besides the control issues , Miller did not throw nearly as hard as advertised. Would rather see Aceves and Bard get the chance to start.

First the Sox sign the ultimate clown manager. They desperately need SP help, BP help, and a right handed bat, preferably to play RF. So who do we sign? Andrew Miller, the walk king of the major leagues. Our two bullpen stalwarts are rumoured to be in line to start. In two months spring training begins, and there is no certainty that Ortiz is a member of the team. The Sox are on the Highway to Hell. Thaw the chicken and chill the beer.

He is worth the try. One of those guys with a career year located somewhere in his arm and nobody can find yet, so the smart MLB team keeps trying. It will show

His stuff's not good enough to start, but he could be a decent short reliever I think. I bet that's the plan. Never seen a more Jekyl+Hyde like guy in my life. Looks good for a bit, then the monster comes out. I also hope they work with him on improving his delivery. The guy tips his pitches, and with all the guys he puts on base it guarantees him a beating.

new manager, new pitching coach, new season.  Short on good young arms.  Worth the risk.  Just because this is the first move they make at the winter meetings doesn't mean they made a conscious choice to forget the real needs and do this instead...
