    Nice job with the link in the opening post, Fajita, with the title and everything.  That's how it's done.  Some people put up 'links' here that you can't even open.

    No way TB makes a major trade within the division like that, especially with the Red Sox.

    I was thinking the same thing.  Thank you FajitaT.   Laughing

    As for Price, he would look great in a Red Sox uniform.

    I wouldn't mind David Price on the Sox, if he gets to FA.  Good chance he gets locked up.....unless he gets traded to KC

    This.

    Basically, the rationale behind the article seems to be:

    1. The Red Sox have not made a big splash in a while;

    2. The Red Sox have a lot of prospects;

    3. David Price may eventually be traded;

    4. David Price would be awesome in Boston;

    5. Who wouldn't want David Price on their team?

    6. Therefore, given 1-5, the Red Sox will go get David Price.

    Sounds a lot like the kind of fan dreaming that goes on here regularly. Must be easy to write for Bleacher Report.

    Re: Red Sox set to acquire David Price !

    I would like to splash some cold water on this for a second.  Am I the only one that is concerned about his health right now?  He was not the same pitcher when we saw him in the playoffs last year, his hits per 9 innings were the highest of his careeer and his strikeout numbers were the lowest of his career.

    The thing that has me most concerned is that David Price lost about 2 MPH on his velocity last year as noted in articles from the beginning, middle and after the end of the season.

    http://www.draysbay.com/2014/1/28/5330470/david-price-and-risk

    In 2013, Price's velocity was down from his 2012 (and previous) average.

    • In 2013, Price spent time on the disabled list with the first arm injury of his career.
    • Before Price went to the disabled list, his strikeout rate was down (to 20%) from its 2012 rate.
    • After he returned, he appeared to improve, but really did so by posting a ridiculously low walk rate and getting good ball-in-play results (luck). His strikeout rate did not rise.

    "Big Game James" would also look pretty good in a Sox Uni. He may not cost the prospects DP would cost and he's a proven commodity.

    This board is RSMLBTR at it's finest. I'm sure a "Price" or "Big Game..." thread would be similar to the Giancarlo or Hernandez speculation threads from the past.

    Heated debates could be forthcoming----it will take more than BenC. is willing to part with.

    No way KC or TB goes for that package. Time will tell. Perhaps BenC. is planting the seed for a back-door move that may surprise everyone.

    No way the Rays trade him within the division.

    Maybe the SOX offer the Rays a deal they can't refuse.

    Tampa Bay trading within the division is a long shot.......even though prospects might be available

    I remeber Price saying in an interview that he likes pitching in Fenway.  Hope he considers when making decision.

    And only way we land Price is if he reaches FA or traded to other team first and then traded to us.

    I didnt even bother reading the article because there is no way that TB would willingly trade DP to the Sox...they hate us more than the Yanks...I hope it is true but I just cant see any scenario that doesnt involve free agency signing...

    Isn't there a HUGE difference between two statements:

    1) Are Sox Setting Themselves Up for a Run at Price?

    2) Red Sox Set to Acquire David Price.

    This linked article is one bloggers opinion as to why it might be a plausible move to trade for Price next winter and enough money with will coming off the payroll to afford his salary in future years.

    [/QUOTE]

    The problem is that the "blogger" did zero research for this article.  The odds of TB GM Andrew Friedman trading Price to Boston or Ben Cherington surrendering the prospects to the Rays that it would take to acquire Price would be about the same as the Sox trading Xander Bogaerts to the Yankees because they simply thought he looked better in pinstripes.

    The author may as well have wrote an article about how the Sox are setting themselves up to acquire Mike Trout.  It's just as realistic as the article he wrote.

    Re: Red Sox set to acquire David Price !

    The point of the article is Sox have what it takes to land Price even the trade will be done within the same division.  The question is either the Sox or the Rays willing to even talk about this.  Price will be a FA i think.  He will test the market whether he stays with the Tampa before being eligible for FA or getting traded to a different team.  Even though Sox will have plenty of money to sign Price when he hits the market, i'm not sure Ben will break his rule and give him 6-7 yrs.
