Red Sox the next NY METS?

In 2008 the Mets were at an all time high, they had young stars and were willing to dish out cash...as such, the fans flooded their stadium. Much like our Red Sox. And like our Sox, the Mets crazy spending hurt the product on the field....and they have felt it in the stands too. Are the Sox heading for this fan revolt? Because the product on the field is most certainly not worth the cost of a day at Fenway.
Mets Attendance figures 2008-2001
2008 - 51,000 per game (2nd in MLB)
2009 - 38,000 per game (7th in MLB)
2010 - 32,500 per game (12th in MLB)
2011 - 30,000 per game (14th in MLB) -

07 - 48,000 Per game
06 - 45,000 Per game
Of course the last year of Shea made it spike...but the ownership spending on mid-level talent caused the plummet in attendance. -

IF....you said it...what are the right things? They are stacked with overpaid long term contracts to inconsistent players or average players.....What will change between this year and next? -

Come on - even on Henry's worst day, he could never be as bad as the Coupons, oops, I mean Wilpons. -

The glaring difference, of course, is that the Mets haven't been good in a decade and then some. At the peak you suggest, they maxed out at 'utterly dissapointing underachievers and chokes'. -

I wish we were 8 and 8 like the Mets right now! -

There is no comparison between the 2 franchises. The RS are one of the storied franchises in sports, while, with a few exceptions (i.e The Miracle team of '69, Seaver/Ryan, and maybe '86); the Mets are a blip on the screen; but don't tell a Met fan that. -

Posted by gbman87603Which contracts are you refering to exactly other than Crawford? While I fuly expect Lackey to bounce back following TJ, he still only has 2 expensive years left after this one. Beckett has been worth his extension thus far (ERA under 3 last year) and only has 2 years left after this one. AGon is big money/long term, but he's also worth it and the deal looks far better after seeing what Votto, Fielder and Pujols signed for.Ortiz is on a 1 year dealYouk is in the last year of his dealDice is in the last year of hisJenks and his $6M will be gone, but $6M (although a waste) certainly isn't crippling. There simply aren't many big $, long term contracts to inconsistent or average players on this team that will still be on the books next year.
