Red Sox to add more names to Manager search

It's  Nov. 8th and Sox  look like and say they will probably take until Thanksgiving  to sign a manager.

With free agent decisins and signings  starting, trades  being considered and made ..  Would you want to be the "front" or "face"   to come in and "manage" a team  you had  no input in putting together ?

Makes it more like your a  caretaker for the 25 guys  you bring out of spring training than anything else.

Interesting that Maddux declined at the last moment the interview with us based on not wanting to be away from his family so much during the season. They reside in Dallas. Then........why is he interviewing with the Cubs? I know his brother is in the Cubs organization, but his reasoning for turning us down is a bit sketchy given today he goes to Chicago for an interview. All points to why would anyone in their right mind want to come into the mess that is the Boston Red Sox right now?

I agree sindarin--that's why I like DeMarlo with a good bench coach. He, at least knows the players, he wants to manage, he could put a good staff together and he probably loves the City of Boston. He and Ben would know who to get rid of and what players would fit , from outside, on this team.

I just dont see it.  Maddux's brother is in Chicago.  How hard is that to figure out?  He specifically said he didnt want to pull his kids out of school and plant them in Boston's.  I wouldn't either.

"The mess" in Boston will pretty much play itself out.  The humiliation the out-of-shape guys endured will guarantee they dont pull that BS again. Lame ducks like Theo and especially Tito, who was publically disrespected, are gone.  Everyone is on notice and the players are LESS likely to act up in 2012 than in other cities because of the public microscope they will be under.  New Manager... new GM... surely a nice infusion of new names in uniform, seeing that only about 9 guys are under contract.

The Sox Manager's job, even though it can be the most challenging, remains one of the prime positions in all sports. I completely reject the suggestion the Sox would have a hard time getting someone to want the job.

Boston is approaching this the same way they do for players in the off-season. Wait to see what's left on the scrap heap.

The Sox have been absolutely hammered for their bloated free agent contracts for players like Drew, Lackey and Crawford (just to name a tiny fraction) as well as trades for expensive pieces like AGone and you are accusing them of "waiting to see what's left on the scrap heap" as the way they approach player acquisition in the off-season?

Could that make any less sense?

Have to agree entirely with you on this one.  Why bother hiring a manager in November when you can wait till December and that way have less players to sort through and of course less money to dole out because nobody will be left to pay any money to...I guess when it comes to next year...things really will be on-the-cheap reclamation projects that are low cost/high reward failures as per Theo era.
