Yes, I do have an IRA that I actively manage. I did take a hit, but gained it back within 14-16 months. I've made enough money that I don't work for anyone but myself, so I understand the situation well enough. I also understand that people who retired & are in 70+ range are feeling the stress of their IRA not bouncing back if they are relying on a not-actively managed account. It's really not surprising that giving your money to a broker to make money doesn't always work. If they were very good at it they wouldn't be working for a paycheck, they'd be doing it for themselves & not dealing with the headaches of working for someone else. As for GM, Obama has given away billions to the bailout & the government has taken a huge loss on that. He'll be looking for the taxpayers to bail out his bailout soon enough. ;-)

He had Democrat majorities in the Senate and house his first two years and got everything he wanted slammed through. Dodd-Frank, Obama-care, and the Stimulus, (remember shovel ready jobs?).
Other Presidents have had it much worst but have worked with the opposition party for the good of the nation to get legislation passed.
The first President to never pass a budget. this with Democrat majorities in both houses his first two years this I suppose the fault of the Republicans.
He wasted billions of tax payer dollars on green energy which has not created any jobs and crippled the domestic coal and oil industries which some how have managed to continue despite him and Liza Jackson.
Tell me how tough things are for this President. The biggest problem we currently have with our economy is him.
If Romney is elected he will look like a genius just because of all the restraints that will be removed from America's businesses.
Particularly those placed by his EPA and Obamacare, corporations are flush with money waiting to see if this idiot is sent packing with his goons back to Chicago.

Anyone who follows politics knew what this guy was when he ran, knew the consequences of an Obama victory held their noses and voted for McCain.
The people like McConnell who openly said they wanted this guy to fail at the outset knew what they were talking about, they knew Obama was a socialist, they knew what his agenda would be, they knew with a Democrat majority in both houses with leftist Pelosi and Reid as majority leaders that it would take the country on a path of financial ruin. Surprise it has.
Basically what it comes down to is if you like the past 3 1/2 years under Obama then by all means vote for him in 2012.
There are a lot of folks out there who now understand what McConnell was talking about when he said what he did back in 2008.

My 401k is fine. What people seem to miss is that the 401k is not completely correlated with the economy. Sales for my company went down, but they also took that opportunity to lay off ~ 10% of the workforce. From a macro economic perspective, that stinks. But from the company perspective, it was good. So the stock should've gone up. But due to scared selling, the stock went down, as almost all stocks went down. And when the prices went low enough, people with money bought on the fundamentals. My company's stock was going to be worth 'x' based on its earnings divided into a multiple based based on competing returns, discounted for the risk. It had nothing to do with Obama.
IRT GM, if they went bankrupt, their production would've been picked up by other car manufacturers. Their stock would've been worth -0-, but assuming demand was the same overall, Ford, Chrysler, and others would've simply have built another 'x' number of cars.
