    Reddick-Bailey

I know I know, people are going to say how amazing Reddick is. I mean the guy is a 242 career hitter with a 298 career OBP.  He has 43 homers and 234 strike outs in 1010 at bats.

    The guy is amazing!

Trades are judged over years and not one season.  Lets see how this one turns out.

Of course Bailey got those all star appearances as a closer in the weak AL West.

    +1

This is what I was saying. Bailey is a 2 time AS closer and a ROY with nasty stuff. He will prove very valuable to the Sox. Maybe moreso than Red is to the A's...

I said it all last year, Bailey is nasty. Reddick has a good glove and plus power, other than that he is as average as can be.

Lets see how it plays out over time.  People have such short memories.

No oddly enough I was going by his entire career and comparing it to Reddicks entire career.

did you know Bailey  played before last year?

So I take it you'd rather have Reddick than Bailey? And I think the OP might have been including Bailey's body of work in Oakland. Just a guess.

Snake, I think it is more accurate to say he has a great glove. Fangraphs have him as the 4th best fielder at any position in MLB for 2012.  His arm is top three of all MLB OF.

Even while being average as can be at all things other than power and glove he was the 27th best postion player in all of MLB Fangraphs WAR for 2012.

Bailey has career WAR of 4.4, JR 2102 4.5.

I know who my money is on as we watch this one play out.

    Away only 2012 -'13:

    WillM   150 PA   .900 OPS    143 wRC+

I think hill is perfectly capable of intelligent conversation. He just seems to have a mood once in a while where he needs to pee on all things Red Sox. My theory is that he is still holding a bit of a grudge about the Lowe Varitek trade. Smile

So JR just turned 26 which skill that he demonstrated in 2012 was a fluke or soon to fade?

    Arm: 15 assists 2012

Glove: Did I mention is 26?

    Power (  ISO  )

       MiLB '07 .225     '08 .250     '09 .242    '10 .200     '11  .277

       MLB  306 games   .200

I don't think he will "fade" . I think he will continue to hit 240 with a 300 OBP with a lot of strikeouts.

My point in this thread is not that he is a bad player. My point is to point out the hysteria of last year. People got a tad manic about the trade.

Snake I don't think the BA and Ks matter nearly as much as you think.  Even with the low BA and the K's he was the 27th best position player in MLB.

My point is to point out the hysteria of last year. People got a tad manic about the trade.

True, judging the trade too early is foolish, but I see Bailey struggling to be anywhere near as vauable as JR.  As long as JR remains an elite fielder with a .200 ISO.

He has alwys had power and always been a great athlete.  I don't see 2012 as a fluke.

I'm off to sleep, I am sure this debate has legs for years to come.

    Re: Reddick-Bailey

I really don't think this should be a debate comparing Bailey and Reddick. At the time of the trade, both teams were getting things they needed. Sox needed a closer, and the A's needed outfield help. The big comparison here should be between the outfielders that were options for the trade...Reddick vs Kalish. The Sox thought that Kalish was going to be a bigger contributor...so far he's just been injured.
