Fenway Park has 37,499 seats, and John Henry has a monopoly on them. He can charge as much as the demand will bear.

I fell in love with baseball when the Milwaukee Brewers moved to County Stadium in Milwaukee- just 2 blocks from my home. I went to watch Tommy Harper & the Brewers play for $1 (bleachers). I think I went to every doubleheader I could...50 cents a game!

(Note: when my family moved to Maine in the early 70's & Tommy Harper, my baseball hero, was traded to the Sox, I switched from Brewer to Sox fan.)

    No. More? Less?

Anyhow, just 3-4 years ago my wife, sister-in-law and I got tickets to see the Sox at Fenway for $5.00 each. It was Derek Lowe's first game back in Fenway after leaving the Sox.

I remember when the majority of the seats were general admission. A low price and sit where you want. The reserved seats were excellent. And the box seats were the ones at field level near the dugout and down the lines. Times have changed.

I think when I used to go in the mid 60's it was under a buck for the bleachers.

My first game was in the box seats in 1974.  The Orioles destroyed the Sox but I fell in love with the team and discovered a much cheaper ticket, namely the bleachers.  You could not buy these tickets in advance.  You showed up, took your chances for a couple of bucks.  By the end of the season, I was hooked.  Then came the best part - 1975.  Lynn, Rice, Burleson, Evans.  I ended up being a regular bleacher bum, often cutting classes but what a ride!

Today, a beer and a hot dog costs more than a field box seat used to.

I remember being 7 year's old.  Bottles had a deposit in NYC back, and beer bottles had even a bigger deposit, and deli's would take returns.  I'd go to the lot where the older kids threw them, got 5-10, and buy a bag of candy.

Even when I got past that, two slices of pizza and an eggcream at the bowling alley was under $1.  I ran illegal contraband to the kids from Yonkers who didn't go home for lunch.  They'd have like $1 a day allowance.

That's when I realized America was the land of milk and honey.

My dad is a huge Yankee fan and grew up in the Bronx and lived there until he was 17. He always talks about sneaking into Yankee stadium to watch Yankee games with his friends. Can you imagine what it would be like sneaking into Yankee stadium now? I bet it's life in prison. LOL
