Repetitive Topic Yes, but Can You Believe Nick Punto Will Be in Camp in February 2013

Hard to believe but with that 2-year contract, this guy will be reporting to Ft. Myers next February. It is unreal why he hasn't been released. He's only due $1.5M next year and why not just go with Ciriaco all the time as your utility IF.

No aging veteran should be on any roster this late in the year batting near or below .200.  Why keep a roster spot for a guy who's had 11 AB's in the last month and on top of that 1 hit, 0 RBI's.

While I doubt Ben thought Nick would hit well with us, .200 is 47 points below his career number. They didn't get this guy to hit. They got him to field many positions. The problem is that we are paying him $1.5/yr to do no better than Ciriaco or Iggy could do. Punto was supposed to be "a bridge" to allow Iggy time to "mature and grow".

We don't need Punto anymore.  Waiting for next ST to cut this guy or deal him is foolish.

There is nothing that Punto can do that Nate Spears can't do.

Spears is fine as the emergency UIF that gets called up in a pinch.  There is zero reason to have Punto on the roster.

[QUOTE]In fact, there is zero reason to have Aviles on the roster. The UIF job goes to the player with the lowest net trade value. I know you were a big cheerleader for Aviles, last April, but it hasn't worked out. The guy is a bum in the job of everyday Red Sox SS. Ciriaco has run circles around those ugly swings, clumsy slow feet, and hands of stone.

"Please someone argue with me about Mike Aviles".

Pick a more exciting topic.  That one is played out for the year.  It's mid August.  Your boy Iggy will be up in September.

Think of something more interesting to ruminate about.

You're cute when you get mad.  The thread was about punto being on the team in 2013.

    Not about Mike "butcherhandsandslumsyfeet" Aviles.

Punto has more value than what his numbers indicate.

Sure, he is not good enough to play everyday, but he is one of the more versatile players in the game. He can play all 4 infield positions plus he can sub in the corner outfield positions in a pinch.

With so many AL teams keeping 12 or 13 pitchers on the roster Punto is valuable because of his versatility.

But he's not valueable to a team if he takes At bats away from someone else like a Ciriaco.

Where punto is at this moment , tomorrow or next yr is the least of this team's worries.

Re: Repetitive Topic Yes, but Can You Believe Nick Punto Will Be in Camp in February 2013

Actually, there is zero reason to get rid of Punto.

Exactly whose place is he taking? Ciriaco? No, he's there.  Aviles? Check.  Why not keep Punto around and see which of these three clears waivers for a potential August trade?  Tyler Greene just got traded.  Does anyone think no other team in MLB is going to want inield depth this month?  So why give it to them for free?  Top make ADG stop complaining?  Well, guess what?  You can't stop him.  You can't even contain him.  No matter what happens, he'll find a way to complain about it. Sox lose? He whines! Sox win? He whines more.  Rain out? He whines? Sunny day? Like I said, you can't stop him and neither can Mother Nature.  He himself repeatedly says nothing matter this seasons, and yet, somehow, he STILL can't stop whining about!!  The team is on a 3 game losing streak, so now is the time to whine about the UTILITY INFIELDER!!!   Tomorrow he will whne about the Bat Boy!! Next, the organist!! And on Sunday, he'll probably complain vogorously about the wheelchair bound paraplegian entrusted with throwing out the first pitch in Cleveland!

It's like he's like some sort of Serial Complainer being sought after in 14 states, and maybe he has to complain real fast so as to stay one step ahead of the law!! Or maybe he's like a robot that was programmed to complain, and somehow he got caught in a software loop and now he can't stop!!  Or maybe its like he made a weird wish about never wanting to complain gain to a genie, who realized that wish itself was a thinly veiled complaint, thus making the wish a paradox, and so the genie twisted his words somehow and now he is doomed to do nothing but complain forever!!

Anyway, Punto is staying for now and ADG will find something else to complain about momentarily.  We thank you for your patience...

    stan,

i completely agree.  punto is not an all star, never was and never will be, but he is not the reason the red sox are in last place basically all year.

it is a very frustrating season for the red sox and their fans, but punto should not be a target at any time.

the guy plays when he is told, does his best and has not gone running to the press about not playing enough.

what more do you ask for a guy who has such a low salary, can play all four infield positions and does not disrupt any thing?

andrewmitch has all Drew complaing rites, and you are making your mark on Beckett.  TrottterSofty has Wakefield, Ellsbury, Varitek and now Aviles. ADG just needs a target to call his own.  He feels left out...
