Reyes out 1-3 months, S. Drew to Blue Jays?

    http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/391064/anthopoulos-reyes-likely-out-1-3-months

Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos estimates that depending on the MRI results, Jose Reyes will likely be out 1-3 months.

It's only an estimation on his part, and more won't be known until they get the MRI results, but it's a certainty that Reyes will be heading to the disabled list. It's a crushing blow for fantasy owners who invested a high draft pick on the dynamic shortstop. Maicer Izturis is the in-house option likely to draw most of the starts at shortstop while Reyes is out, but Anthopoulous has also indicated he would explore trade options.

Probably too early, but who could the Sox fleece from the Jays if they were interested?

Reyes to the DL... what else is new?

on a related note, unrealistic to think we trade Drew this early into the season.. Even more unrealistic to think we trade him to the Jays. Who after trading for half the Marlins roster and RA D are virtually depleted in terms of prospects.

well said.  They have nothing the RS need.  Can't even imagine they would look for a salary dump at this point.

It's not Sox managements job to save the Jays. Stephen Drew is too good a player to trade to the Jays. I'd take Brett Laurie in a heartbeat and find a place for him to play in Boston. In my mind he and Batista are co MVP's on the Jays.

Tough break for the Blue Jays.  So far, the Blue Jays and Angels have been disappointments.  But that is why we play a 162-game schedule.

Jays system is actually still pretty good.  It was stacked before the trades and considered by some the best in baseball.  There system has taken a big step back, but they are still in the middle of the pack with a lot of low level further away talent.  We are kinda slim in Greenville so I could actually see a match if the two teams could get past the divisional rival thing.

Id ask for D.J Davis and Mitch Nay.  An OF and a 3B both far away prospects but who have high ceilings with good power potential.  Maybe that's way to high, but hey you got to start somewhere, I'd be happy with one of those guys plus another toolsy player.....Jays still have a lot of pitchers in their Farm.

And then, if Iglesias hits .118 over the next 5 weeks, all of you can start complaining about having an "automatic out" in the lineup is killing this team...

They would ask for Ciriaco not Drew.

Re: Reyes out 1-3 months, S. Drew to Blue Jays?

Mets catcher John Buck joins Chris Davis in the insane RBI start with his fourth HR in four games, this one a grand slam.  There have been four major league players who have driven in at least 19 runs in the first ten games of a season (records go back to 1921) -- Buck and Davis this year, Manny Ramirez in 1999 and Lou Gehrig in 1927.

Gehrig parlayed that into a 175 RBI season, and Ramirez into 165.  My guess would be that neither of these guys hit anywhere near those kinds of numbers.  But in the early going, Buck is making that Blue Jays trade for R.A. Dickey look not so good.

Why give up another player?  Sox will have that money off the books by years end regardless, and it's notiLife they will turn around and use it, the season has already begun.  And as Moon pointed out Drew can't be traded untill Reyes may be close to coming back.

Not that this matters from any perspective other than my own knowledge, but could Drew be traded if he agreed to be traded?  Or does the CBA tie him to the Sox no matter what?

Yeah that one year contract is a real killer.

Why wouyld the Sox move Drew to help out a division rival?   So fans can start hating Iglesias again when he stops hitting (which he will.  The chances of that are about 100%.)?

Or NOW do Sox fans want to pretend they are all about defense?  Which is why so many wanted Coco Crisp run out of town.   Iglkesias hjas been the same defender for years, but when he was hitting .118 last year, defense was unimportant.   Now he has a few infield grounders and bunt hits, and suddenly he is Robin Yount 2.0?

Drew will be here for a while.  Get used to it.   And maybe actually try being a fan of the team they build, as opposed to being a fan of the players you want...

In a heart beat !!!   Addition by subtraction !!

    Bill,

Please read what Notin and others are writing. I expect silly points of view from the Soft One and and Idiot2004 but you should know better.

Why would the Sox want to help out a division rival first of all and secondly do we really know if Iggy is ready for MLB. Sure he's 9/20 to start but look at JBJ's spring training stats when everyone was raving over him and arguing that sending him down was the wrong thing to do and now he's can't hit the side of a barn. We all know short term samples like Iggy's from this year might be meaningless or may mean he has improved but what if Iggy goes down with an injury. Drw is here, a proven shortstop coming back from injuries. It would be foolish for the Sox to trade him so quickly to save 5mil when the payroll is still reasonable.

    Hetch

I would trade Drew in a minute if we could get a good pitching prospect in return. This year the strategy should be "all in" on rebuilding our 12th ranked pitching staff. If Drew is not traded then he is the starting SS, but it would sure be nice to get a prospect like Webster or RDLR in return for him.
