I was thinking the same but once in a while a change is good.

    What's the beef?
For a day it won't kill anyone.

Folks here always pay tribute to the deceased.

    Re: RIP two great ladies

MT is loved or hated in the UK like none other.

Crazy stuff was happening here when she came on the scene:

"Large parts of the country had been nationalized, including the health system, the steel industry, coal mining, parts of the retail sector, hotels and even travel agencies.   It was a system that strangled self-initiative. The country became increasingly less competitive; its industry declined to the point that it barely played a role in global business and the pound was in free-fall."   Spiegel

It was illegal to put an extension line in your own house, only the state sold answering machines, and it took months to get a phone installed.  The tax on unearned income was 98%, killing industrial investment.  Private newspapers were not allowed to publish tv listings, only the BBC owned rag could.

On the other hand: the Germans managed to transform their economy without the massive upheaval, she left office with 11% inflation, the railways had to be re-nationalized due to neglect from the private owners, and worst of all the 1986 financial deregulation went too far as we saw in 2008.

All in all I'd say her influence was positive.
